Moviegoers are saying
Audiences are split on how much they can forgive. Fans adore John Turturro wandering a shabby, lovingly shot New York with a funky jazz score, and call the flawed, dad-joke-titled film an endearing 'boomer gem.' Detractors say the emotional climax is five minutes of clichés and that Jamie Lee Curtis is the weak link.

A movie that’s 70% just Turturro riding the subway and walking around New York; it doesn’t get better than this, baby

A wily but weary John Turturro running around New York trying to escape a heist jam, with a sprinkle of family drama, all set to a funky jazz score? Shot on location and looks good to boot? Exactly my jam. Also shoutout to Will Price for playing one of the more punchable…

A little sweet boomer gem. A nostalgic tale of a man who no longer recognize themselves, the city he live in or the times he lives through. Finally, a movie about a man who does bad things, a flawed man who gets to be the protagonist without the movie needing to condemn…

There’s a scene where John Torturro and Jamie Lee Curtis just trade 5 straight minutes of cliches, and it’s supposed to be the emotional climax. Hilarious stuff

I think a couple things are off. Turturro does phenomenal but everyone else felt weak. The score also felt at times too uplifting for what was at stake. Another gripe is the “kids these days”/“remember back then” writing overplay. Could’ve been another Uncut Gems but falls short

More than the heist, I loved this bittersweet love letter to New York, centred on an aging, regretful man struggling to keep up with a changing world. The jazz score and borough-hopping charm were a highlight for sure. Predictable twists, but that's besides the point.

Leon the Professional meets Uncut Gems and a little bit of The Warriors just because of all the subway scenes. This will go down as an iconic NYC set movie.

Wasnt expecting this movie to get rlly depressing but it was bittersweet. Definitely a slow burn but it was very cozy and an easy watch. The New York vibe and atmosphere was great and the acting from everyone was effortlessly good (not including the rich kid wasn’t a fan of him)

Such a bittersweet crime thriller. Captures the exact essence of New York City. The coloring of this film also really caught my eye. Like a tribute to a changing city. 7.5

Sad ending. I feel the movie could've gone a bit deeper with the main character's back story.

John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, and Giancarlo Esposito all bring a weary soulfulness to the film, helping it cultivate a melancholy tone without tipping into sentimentality.

This wistful story is best when it leans on these people being people: hurt, broken, and imperfect. Turturro shines, offering a performance that not only gives justice to this honorable character—but also proves that he’s among the last of a certain type of professional actor, a performer capable of giving every part of himself over no matter the size of the role or the genre, place, or time in which it occurs.
