idiots will call this a staggering retelling of the myth of prometheus through the eyes of the american laborer, the fire of the gods becoming success under capitalism, an unattainable fiction that drives men to maddened violence in their pursuit geniuses will understand…

The performances are highlights in both Pattinson's and Defoe’s repertoire, the black and white photography is gorgeous, and the story of "Winslow" coming to terms with his tentacle fetish was truly powerful stuff.

I wrote a 10 page essay on this film in which I explored its mise-en-scene, productions behind-the-scenes, and it’s derived story and deeper themes. I had to have watched this movie through at least 10 times in a week. I think I’m obligated to rank it higher because of this fact.

Yeah people who say that they “like” or “love” this movie want to come off like they’re some film connoisseur. You’re not. And it wasn’t a good movie

It’s the perfect film school movie as nothing makes sense unless you take a deep dive, the acting is amazing from both Robert and Will making it very rewatch able. However this is one of the few I can name as not for everyone, it’s a great watch just not an enjoyable one. 8.5/10
Kareem likedThe LighthouseAmazing cinematography/lighting honestly it should've won the Oscar over "1917". Loved the soundtrack too kinda reminded me of The Lobester but 10 times better. Also someone pls tell me where is Willem's Oscar 🙄. And thank god Robert explained the movie in the interviews.
Noah March is "meh" onThe Lighthouse🫎🫎🫎🫎 This movie is visually stunning, and the cast and acting is amazing, but it is the slowest movie I’ve ever seen. And i didn’t really get the story.

This one is not an easy go. It is NOT a horror film. It is a psycho-sexual character study. . Dafoe and Pattinson are both amazing. The look of the film is like visual poetry. This is an art film surrounding a spiral of madness.

In a word - genius. (Not a "horror" flick and not for casual movie-going.)

The Lighthouse stands as a monument to two titanic performances. Pattinson’s easy naturalism curdles into something unnerving and evil here, while Dafoe goes full German Expressionist villain with the biggest screen performance since Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood.

The Lighthouse is a ferocious battle of wills, a tour de force of cold, clammy suspense and a protracted descent into cabin-fever madness. It is also a gorgeous piece of film craft, a chance to savor the visual glories of a bygone era of cinematic artisanship.
