Synopsis
In a seedy underworld where flesh meets felt, crime isn’t cute. It just looks that way. Melissa McCarthy stars as a disgraced LAPD officer-turned-private investigator, who’s working with her partner on a dangerous new case: a murderer that’s targeting the stars of a hit kid’s show from the 80s. Only the victims, and her partner, are all puppets. Can she put a stop to the violence before somebody else loses their stuffing? Death, drugs, and debauchery – this is the naughty R-rated puppet movie you didn’t know you needed in your life. Directed by noted puppet expert Brian Henson, the film also stars Elizabeth Banks, Joel McHale, and Maya Rudolf.

Lazy, dull, unfunny. Has no mood, character or atmosphere mostly because of the lighting and atrocious music choice. The puppets have no rules. The story is okay at times but the humour drags it down into the gutter. I really liked the performance of the main puppet voice…
Alex IHEOct 25, 2026Yes… I am one of four people a part of the target audience for this puppet porn movie. It’s so dumb in the best way and makes me laugh every damn time. It could also be that this idiocy has so many vocal stems for me sooo I guess it’s a win-win. “You want some rotten…
youvegotkelAug 23, 2018it wasn't what i was hoping for but i had fun anyway and honestly how i can hate brian henson's big passion project, it seems like it was made with a lot of love and that's all i can ask for from a henson project :)

So, this film definitely had its moments. Jim Henson was a master in the puppet field and his son, Brian, directed this. It seems he took everything that was pleasant about the puppets and put a sick and evil spin on it. It also had a noir/comedy spin, but it definitely…

Based on the ratings & reviews for this, this might be a bit of a hot-take. But I actually thought this was pretty solid. I haven’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. I mean some of it was obviously offensive. The race stuff & Michael Jackson references were too…
NickWhat went wrong here? Seriously, what on Earth went wrong here? The Happytime Murders was a film that I've been curious about since three years ago, when I saw the initial concept art and read about the idea, both of which I thought were awesome. A hard-R neo-noir dark…
Dawson JoyceWhen the trailer hit theaters for this, it was the height of MoviePass. Suffice to say, I watched the Silly String© ejaculation scene more times than I’d care to, but each time the audience erupted in laughter. This made the film’s total box office failure somewhat…

This movie clicked for me after the iffy first 15 minutes. It is full of gut busting humor, and the puppets are unexpectedly hilarious. This movie did poorly in theaters because it has no obvious intended audience, but it’s a 10 for raunchy films. Underrated is an understatement.
Nanoeli01 likedThe Happytime MurdersI was a little bit iffy and unsure of how I would like this movie definitely an adult film do not watch with your kids. There’s a lot of adult humor in this and some inappropriateness but overall funny, I generally would not choose to watch this regularly.
Nikki likedThe Happytime MurdersIt’s giving who framed Roger rabbit crossed with sausage party crossed with the muppets. Pretty funny. High🍃 life comedy

Adrienne C likedThe Happytime MurdersSooo it says Rated R but its ACTUALLY RATED R. I didn’t expect some of that inappropriate stuff to happen. It was just kinda uncomfortable at some party but overall I really enjoyed the movie and the plot. It was kinda weird and that was expected.
Serenity likedThe Happytime MurdersIt’s a bit stupid, but I laughed a good handful of times. It’s bizarre and interesting Liz Tw sex, so many sex jokes, puppet nudity?, violence, kind of gore ?,

Chloe Thompson likedThe Happytime MurdersGood movie, funny. Something you can put on in the background while doing something but still enjoy it
Larissa likedThe Happytime MurdersWhat a movie. It is definitely not for kids. Like I get their puppets but the sex scene was so graphic

DBDejanria BoulwareThe movie was hilarious. It's mindless fun. It was money well spent. I'd see it again if I had the time. I'm definitely getting the digital HD release.

It’s the execution that lets this dog down. Not enough funny lines and even the cheap, dirty laughs are in short supply.

It’d be an intriguing premise — if, again, it weren’t so nearly identical to Roger Rabbit, right down to the inevitable frame job. Also, if The Happytime Murders had taken a few more cues from that film and focused less on the rote whodunit and more on the funhouse-mirror L.A. where it takes place.

Stuffed full of rampant badness, the scattershot comedy isn’t nearly as clever or subversive as it thinks it is.
