Synopsis
An act of friendly generosity pushes a young woman to become a true warrior when she’s caught between cops and a drug cartel. Gloria (Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin) visits Tijuana to help her friend Suzu compete in a beauty pageant. When an event at a club explodes in gunfire Gloria comes face to face with a cartel boss. When Suzu goes missing, Gloria gets help from her new criminal acquaintance… for a price.
While focused on finding and saving Suzu, Gloria is used as a pawn by both sides of the drug war. Trapped in the battleground between DEA and cartel, the unassuming young woman transforms into a heroic and extraordinary survivor.

It was okay. Gina Rodriguez had some of the same acting skills as Jane the Virgin character. Movie was predictable but also had good visuals. The end was pretty good. I don't see a sequel out of this movie.

Gina Rodriguez, who proved in Annihilation that she’s capable of something so much more addled and kinetic than this, does what she can with such aggravating material, but everything around her insults whatever emotional depth she can mine despite what she’s given.

There are white-knuckle moments, notably Gloria’s crossing of the border with a heap of stuff that would raise troubling questions were she stopped and searched. Rodriguez puts us right there in the car beside her and it’s thrilling. But the outcome arrives a bit too pat, our heroine conveniently switching from cowed hostage to arms-wielding ass-kicker with dubious ease.
