Wow. Kara Young is a STAR. Casting Sterling K. Brown, who often plays characters with deep moral authority, as the villain is such an inspired choice. Black women’s rage being played straight and not for laughs or shame is so refreshing to see. I’m all for more films…

alejandroxpadiMay 14, 2026Somehow addresses the cycle of violence within black families caused by internalized misogynoir. The way some people use religion as a tool to justify the violence done of women so they can ignore the abuse caused by others. The internalized rage on display from the women…

laurabittmanMay 14, 2026make no mistake: is god is is a deeply spiritual, stylish and charming southern gothic about vengeance and its demons. but it's also a cautionary tale about what can happen when your sister listens to too much death grips. there are some hitches here but they weren't…

🫎🫎🫎1/2 Great directorial debut. Lots of cool techniques in here. Best example was the use of text for the twin telepathy. Solid story and solid characters. Late night solo showing might’ve altered my feelings about this movie a bit, but all in all a good movie.
Cinematic Joshua likedIs God IsA revenge Thriller that burns with intense lessons to be learned and taught through wrath.
Devin Peters dislikedIs God IsThis is my new measure for worst movie I have ever seen, it was so insanely bad , I have no clue how people are rating this so highly , the characters all make horrible choices learn nothing throughout and are all super predictable, the lowest possible dislike i have ever given.

The film feels stylish, emotional, twisted & layered in a way that keeps unfolding scene after scene. Inspirations from Tarantino & Jordan Peele, but it still feels completely original. Cast brings so much power to the screen. One of those movies that sticks with you.
jam jammy jambam likedIs God IsIncredibly stylized revenge flick. The twins had great chemistry and the twinepathy was fun. Everyone was amazing, Sterling K too, especially since he only properly shows up 80 minutes in. Hand to hand combat was a miss and I wish it was bloodier. ALSO MOSES SUMNEY!!
Nick Dubberly likedIs God IsAnd you thought your family had issues?! I went into this completely blind, and I was not prepared for what I was about to witness! I was a little disappointed with the ending, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

It wasn’t what expected but I still enjoyed it. It’s definitely a little dark and should’ve had a warning. But excellent writing and great actors!!
DJ likedIs God IsYes! And, never need to see Sterling K that way again but he killed it.
Jake likedIs God IsA very visually beautiful revenge thriller. I loved the vibe, the costuming and the shot framing. It’s a solid story with a really interesting writing style. The characters are very rich and well-defined. I think some elements of the film feel a bit amateurish. Specifically some of the…

In this fiery revenge thriller from debuting director Aleshea Harris, twin sisters plot to kill the monster daddy (Sterling K. Brown) who burned their house down. There’s no way to take your eyes off what’s on screen. No way in hell.

Is God Is asks us to pay heed — in ways subtle and bold — to its comedy and anguish. It demands, without seeming to, that we watch to see, really see.

Featuring larger-than-life characters described with epithets like “monster” and “the rough one,” and blending brutal violence with themes of generational trauma, abuse, and toxic masculinity, the film ponders what one does with the bottomless hate of being wronged.
