Movie Info & Cast

Synopsis

It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode first escaped the murderous intentions of Michael Myers on his Halloween killing spree. And now Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role to face off against her stab-happy brother, played once more by Nick Castle, in what just might be their final confrontation. Or is it? This is a horror movie after all. David Gordon Green, who co-wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride, directs this anticipated installment of the long-running franchise. And while the director and star of Pineapple Express drew inspiration from the original 1978 Halloween in crafting this new entry, they had a bit of help. In fact, series creator John Carpenter himself acted as a consultant. The film also stars Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Virginia Gardner, Will Patton, Jefferson Hall, and Toby Huss.

While it doesn’t do much to elevate the genre, Halloween does tick each and every box, which should be more than enough to appease your run of the mill fanboy, but scare off anyone with half a brain.

By staying true only to the initial narrative, this Halloween solidly ranks as the best chapter since the first – not exactly the highest bar – mostly by making Laurie (a remarkable Jamie Lee Curtis, whose last appearance in the series was 2002's Halloween: Resurrection) anything but a victim.

This isn’t a glorious rebirth, it’s a functional facsimile, and it’s a wholly satisfying piece of slasher entertainment regardless.
