Synopsis
Our favorite giant atomic lizard is back and he’s not alone! The sequel to 2014’s Godzilla picks up with the Monarch organization faced with not one but four giant kaiju. Godzilla is joined by classic Japanese movie monsters Rodan, Mothra, and the three-headed King Ghidorah.
As the crypto-zoological agency Monarch seeks to understand and control the monsters, another agency surfaces with its own ideas for the godlike beasts. Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) and her daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) are caught in the middle. They scramble to survive as Godzilla’s battle with his fellow monsters shakes the Earth to its core.

Honestly a virtually perfect albeit very Westernized recreation of a Heisei-era Godzilla kaiju superbrawl picture. I mean they even have a Godzilla Defense Force-equivalent airborne superfortress. Deeply stupid, overpopulated with human characters, still a total blast. If…
matt lynchMay 23, 2019It's like AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, with Vera Farmiga as Thanos and the monsters as her Infinity Stones.
Chris EvangelistaMay 27, 201912 The classic example of a creative team pulling the worst from its predecessor and failing to develop on its potential. Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, as an origin for the new 'zilla incarnation and a study of humanity's insignificance amongst ancient beings, was a…

Having your only real Japanese character use a nuke to awaken Godzilla in your American adaptation is uhhhhhh

FramesofnickApr 5, 202112 This is still a miserable mess. Lacking the scale and weight of 2014's Godzilla while still committing to plodding exposition and cardboard characters. It takes about an hour before anything interesting happens. Most of this is boring filler humans talking in rooms…

adamboltMay 27, 2019Was. Für. Ein. Brett. Irgendwo in der Mitte von "Godzilla 2" gibt es einen Punkt, da wird aus einem brillant fotografierten, aber immer wieder auch beliebigen Blockbuster-Getöse plötzlich ein AB-SO-LU-TES Spektakel. "King of the Monsters" wird mit jeder Minute fast…

- zxki is "meh" onGodzilla: King of the Monsters
The start had me excited that we finally got a 'day in the life of godzilla' movie, but of course not. The human story was a lot better than some of the other movies, but the screentime for monsters to humans made me want to pull my hair out. It blessed us with amazing, mind-blowing scenes that…
The Terminator likedGodzilla: King of the MonstersGood to see that CGI has evolved enough for such a titular film (Though a lot of people believe the contrary)

Garmelie lovedGodzilla: King of the MonstersKing of the Monsters my beloved… I love this dumb movie so much. At its core this is the antithesis of what makes the Monsterverse so incredible and equally as cringy: split between the hype of seeing these kaiju in their most impressive and detailed scale, and the nauseatingly bad human…

Eco-terrorists wake up ancient titans to “restore balance” but accidentally unleash King Ghidorah, a lightning-spewing alien dragon trying to take over Earth. Godzilla gets wrecked, heals in an underwater nuke spa, then comes back glowing nuclear red. Mothra helps, sacrifices herself, Rodan…
Jake likedGodzilla: King of the MonstersIt’s quite an epic movie for sure. The monster fights are sick and it’s just overall fun. However, a lot of the dialogue is pretty cheesy and bad. And Kyle Chandler..was not the right choice. Overall CGI was good except in closeups, where it looked pretty amateurish. But the large scale effects…
Stoofman likedGodzilla: King of the MonstersThis was genuinely an action packed monster-destruction-whatever movie. Actually though, it was everything that you’d want from a Godzilla movie, absolutely incredible. (For me) this was a redemption of everything that went wrong with the first Godzilla movie, simply fantastic

AKAllen KohlhagenCritics do t get it. This is a Godzilla movie. The hero is make believe and so is everything in it. Your favorite old monster is a back with several others and in the fight of his life in a cinematic wonder. Lots of monster time, a fast pace, and the Inevitable human…

Godzilla: King of Monsters is a film that seems to paint with sound — sometimes Pop Art, but more often large canvas Jackson Pollock splatter.

There are too many gaps in the cross-generational/cross-gender appeal for the movie to emerge as one of the 2019 summer movie season’s big winners. Some will argue this is all set-up for next year’s Kong/Godzilla rematch. After watching King of the Monsters, however, I sadly find myself less excited about that outing.
