👽 Zara 👽Dec 21, 2016Reasons why Letterboxd should take this film more seriously: - Ron Howard's best film. Can you think of something better? I can't. - One of three Oscar noms Jim Carrey was robbed of. - I'm sorry but the script is funny as hell and makes this trainwreck so pleasing. -…

Estelle lovedHow the Grinch Stole ChristmasBest christmas movie
MovieDaddy dislikedHow the Grinch Stole ChristmasThis version of the Grinch rides the line between safe and dark too close, which results in its failure. If you’re going to go dark, lean into it. Otherwise play it safe and keep it open for a wider audience. The inability to commit one way or the other is obvious.

Awesome
Penny likedHow the Grinch Stole ChristmasI think it’s mostly nostalgia but I’ve been watching this movies every few years since I was a kid so it hold a special place in my heart. Jim Carrey is still a better Grinch then Benedict Cumberbatch. Show your kids this movie instead of the Illumination trash.

I am not a mind-reader and cannot be sure, but I think a lot of children are going to look at this movie with perplexity and distaste. It's just not much fun.
Roger Ebert
Chicago Sun-Times
This new feature has replaced the original's benevolence, taste and wit with cynicism, armpit humor and manic, desperately unfunny padding.
Hazel-Dawn Dumpert
L.A. Weekly
Profoundly unnecessary -- cluttered, padded even at 90 minutes, indifferently narrated by Anthony Hopkins, and consistently misdirected by Ron Howard.
