Moviegoers are saying
This animated biblical musical about King David divides audiences into passionate camps - faith-based families are calling it a spiritual masterpiece with stunning Cape Town animation and Phil Wickham's powerful vocals, while critics slam everything from potential AI-generated backgrounds to concerns about religious propaganda. The film tackles David's complete story beyond just Goliath, though some question whether its nearly 2-hour runtime and mature themes truly work for younger audiences.

David may be a towering figure of biblical lore, but this telling of a chapter of his story is not merely animated, it’s cartoonish.

A well-produced, visually impressive, character-driven fable about the man who would be king.

It comes off, it plays and it entertains. And the impressive, high-end Sunrise Animation Studio production values — realistic landscapes, clever character designs and tje scale of a capital city under construction (Gibeah, pre-Jerusalem) — are just the icing on the cake.
