"The fans, god bless em, they're clamorring for more. I guess evil never dies, right?" "It was a script... it was a dream." The consequence of working in arts and production and being able to turn your dreams into reality is that you can inadvertently do the same with…
Josh LewisSep 6, 2015I'm a huge Wes Craven fan, so I was expecting to like this, but I didn't expect it to unsettle me as much as it did. It's silly in the special way Craven movies are, and often very funny. Lots of the special effects look weird and dated (though they do look more 2002 than…

The most Wes Craven that Wes Craven has ever Wes Craven'd
BrodyOct 24, 2021Reality, meet fantasy. I adore the first two acts of this movie, culminating in what may be my favorite sequence in this franchise—after the freeway scene when heather runs back to her home where she cinematic king John Saxon starts talking to her… The moment he stops…
Ian WestOct 29, 202384 Wes Craven's ode to the fantasies and nightmares of his career. Scary, silly, deeply moving - the Craven special. Heather/Nancy's dive into Freddy's netherworld dreamscape is one of the greatest moments in 90s horror.

New Nightmare is the best one in the franchise after the original and Dream Warriors. The plot is so meta, blurring lines between reality and fantasy. In previous sequels Freddy became more camp than scary, Wes brought him back to his scary roots here. Tho the movie feels…
NakulSep 2, 2019There really isn’t a review I could write to do justice to the relationship I have to this movie. It came out when I was like 15 years old so it was that time when I was getting physically close to being able to see R rated movies on my own, but I still technically couldn’t…
Tony the TerrorSep 9, 2019“The more she read, the more she realized what she had in her hands was nothing more or less than her life itself. That everything she had experienced and thought was bound within these pages. There was no movie. There was only...her...life...” Regards, Wes.

- GENAI lovedWes Craven's New Nightmare
I genuinely can’t believe what I just watched… ABSOLUTELY insane. Like this is easily my favorite Nightmare movie, and honestly one of my favorite sequel installments to a franchise. Literally the most meta movie I’ve ever seen, ridiculously creative and genuinely good scares😭❤️🔥
Tiger Z likedWes Craven's New NightmareThank God Craven returned to the series. This movie was a genius idea and creative. Main flaws are some of the writing and part of Freddy’s new appearance. Great acting from Robert as expected. It’s also missing more action. Best sequel in the series. 7.5/10 Fav Scene - Miss Me?
anton chigurh likedWes Craven's New NightmareThis movie takes the franchise into a whole new direction. It was cool to see Nancy come back and her character was more convincing this time around. I think her son Dylan got a bit too much screen time and Freddy didn’t get enough. Probably the ‘scariest’ of all the films.
- Scranton Strangler lovedWes Craven's New Nightmare
One of my favorite Freddy movies if the whole series. For sure a fun and creepy change up to this already bonkers horror series. This one stretched the line between reaputy and the dream world even thinner. Nancy returns which is great.
kendra jo likedWes Craven's New Nightmarethis was actually a really cool idea & well written. craven took the dreams vs reality concept one step further—to fiction vs life. some of the visual effects were kinda bad but i really enjoyed the story.

CvptvinHowdy likedWes Craven's New NightmareOnly Wes Craven could've brought this franchise back from disaster in the previous few sequels. The whole meta concept is cool, and Freddy being back to being more scary is exactly what was needed. I wish I could say I loved it overall, but it does tend to get quite boring and slow. Heather…

I haven't been exactly a fan of the Nightmare series, but I found this movie, with its unsettling questions about the effect of horror on those who create it, strangely intriguing.
Roger Ebert
Chicago Sun-Times
The cinematic horror genre, like the science fiction one, has been badly hamstrung by poor films, and several of the Nightmare on Elm Street entries have been at the forefront of the decline. Therefore, it's somewhat ironic that one of the most intelligent and creative efforts to come along in a while bears the Nightmare theme, title, and signature villain.
