A movie just about David’s weird parents who are totally oblivious to their son’s hacking, don’t care when he’s arrested by the FBI, and butter (uncooked!) corn by coating a piece of bread and then rubbing the bread on the cob, is the great 1980s spinoff we never got.

Loved it. It’s hard to believe that Matthew Broderick was ever that young. Enjoyed the plot and the star-studded cast that largely captured some would-be big names. Great comedy moments and the stakes felt real. General what’s-his-face was kind of a d-bag though.

There's not a scene here where Badham doesn't seem to know what he's doing, weaving a complex web of computerese, personalities and puzzles; the movie absorbs us on emotional and intellectual levels at the same time. And the ending, a moment of blinding and yet utterly elementary insight, is wonderful.
