first thing tj miller (🤢) says to kristen stewart (😍) after she rescues him is “you sweet, flat-chested elven creature.” tapped out at that point to play chess.com on my phone for the remaining 80 minutes

Brisk, tense, and pretty gnarly and that's before the scary monsters show up. Certainly one of the best and leanest ALIEN knockoffs I've ever seen, with a very welcome and economical self-awareness. Stewart absolutely kills it, simultaneously confident and terrified, she's…

20 If Underwater released in the mid-90s, it would be a solid 3 star piece of junk food, but with a screenplay like this, I couldn't even pretend to care about what was going on, especially when so much of this is muddy and incoherent visually. TJ Miller is so unfunny that…

When a movie starts (and ends) with exposition via news clippings AND narration, you already know what type of movie you are in for. Basically it’s just underwater Alien, and underwater Gravity, and underwater The Descent but not nearly as good in any aspects. There were…

Beautifully shot. The lighting is so so so good in the interiors. Wide-angle close ups, love. The peaking in the sound design of the creature was also cool, I support Kristen, love Vincent (always), I think that may have been it.

I’m honestly not mad I watched this. I didn’t fall asleep, but I also wasn’t kept on edge of my seat. The action starts off with a boom, but then it kinda drags.... and drags... and... add in some literal dragging.

Kristen Stewart's acting was flat and one dimensional as usual. TJ Miller's wisecracking character was unfunny and the ending was predictable. It was terrible

Great take on the monster/survival style perfected by the original Alien film. Kristen Stewart really shines in this film!

Not winning any awards, but plenty entertaining monster fun. The monsters are all the meat in this movie sandwich, the story and characters are pretty generic forgettable.

Underwater breaks no new ground as a sci-fi horror flick — other than as a possible contender for the murkiest movie ever made.

Director William Eubank keeps the action taut and the look of the film is realistically impressive and dark, with grimy, dirty workers donning cool dive suits that make them each look like Transformers. His camera often goes tight on the shocked faces inside the helmets. Stewart, in particular, shines with a combination of steely nerves and harrowing expressions.
