Synopsis
Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic - content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

I saw some reviews here complaining about the flashbacks which is insane to me. It’s a movie about people hanging out telling stories! The stories are all great! Gimme all the stories you got!

KarstenAug 28, 2022enjoyably low-key for most of its runtime but it's glaringly obvious that there are a lot of missing pieces here. as it approaches its final act things start to happen way too quickly and thematic ideas are introduced without much establishment in a way that feels tacky.…

65 It seems like MGM and UA attempted to market this adult fantasy as a Everything Everywhere All At Once esque cosmic extravaganza, but in reality, it's a mostly gentle movie about the nature of the narratives we hold dear and the inherent escapism in our own stories. A…

James (Schaffrillas)Aug 25, 2022I can only take so many fades to black before my patience is tested. For a while there it was nice listening to Idris Elba tell some stories, shame that the central romance just absolutely did not work for me at all. King Solomon and his magic instrument really stole the…

It’s unlike anything I expected But that doesn’t mean it’s bad - it’s really quite lovely Reminds me of The Fall, Pan’s Labyrinth & Penelope A wonderful fairy tale
Absolutely magnificent. Alithea is a solitary woman, and she convinces herself she is happy as such although her true feelings about her state manifest themselves in hallucinations. Every story the Djinn tells is metaphorical of Alithea’s past struggles in life as well as current

⚪I just couldn't really get into this. I loved the visuals, but the cut to the hotel scenes always annoyed me. I kind of wish they would've ditched those altogether and let his story be the film. The design of the Djinn was cool, but the scenes in London are what killed me. 🔴
I thought I would really like this movie bc the trailer, but I found the relationship between the main characters to be boring/unnecessary. On the flip side I think it was beautifully shot, I did like the music and the stories within the story were great. Not a must see, just meh
It is a pleasure to see these two giants interact. It's a great story, with beautiful dialogue, specially him as the storyteller. Yes, there are inconclusive things, but the way of presenting what we are as humans and all our feelings seemed beautiful to me. I recommend it 100%.

This is now one of my GOAT movies. It’s such a beautiful story and so easy to watch. So many movies now seems so intent on shocking or upsetting you or blind siding you with action and sky beams. This movie is so simple and easy to watch but it’s depth will touch your soul
One part intelligent conversation between two captivating actors, one part collection of short stories containing stunning visuals. Despite this, the lack of a cohesive story structure caused this to drag and at times feel dull. Perhaps it just wasn’t for me. 2/5

A wonderful mix of fantasy and romance with a very engaging twist
JLJ. LoveLonging for true love is inevitable at some point in life. Although it may seem as if we have everything we desire, without love, we will always be incomplete. Great movie!!
TFTina FulghamThis was a very strange movie. The naked large women was disturbing
