Wasn’t able to grab my attention at all really. Andy Garcia was pretty fun, and Christopher Lloyd as the boss was cool. Needed more Steve Buscemi. I had no idea what was going on half the time.
gregs1999Nov 20, 2022forgot almost everything about this nearly thirty years later but watching it now there’s a couple important takeaways: Christopher Lloyd was born to play a porn projectionist and everyone who made this hates Denver
Justin LaLibertyMay 5, 2025"Things to Do in Denver when You're Dead" is a 1995 film directed by Gary Fleder. The film follows Andy Garcia's character of Jimmy "The Saint" who is primarily retired in his gangster driven habits until brought in to do one final job. Assembling a crew of assorted…

Went in blind to this darkly comic crime drama and really enjoyed it. Andy Garcia makes a great leading man, and I found the script and direction creative and imaginative. Add in a top-notch ensemble supporting cast, playing a range of interesting characters, and a cool…
williamfaeleithMar 10, 2025The most aggressive mid 90s movie to come out from the period. Lots of affected moves, the generic crime plotting it is elevating, stacked cast asked to over play a couple of actorly tics each, the belief that lots of death equals meaning. Gary Fleder serves all the fake…

My Cheadle completionist run continues with the unique Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (total Cheadle time of <3 minutes). I liked it, although it might have been a little all over the place. The movie kinda has its own language, using words like buckwheat and…
coleApr 30, 2026This is a stylized neo-noir that perfectly captures the mid-90s "cool crime" trend in cinema. While it seems to have been dismissed as a Tarantino imitation upon release, it is actually a more melancholic, fatalistic tragedy, presenting a remarkably somber take on legacy…
Jeff SextonNov 6, 2023You know what’s great? The song ‘Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead’ by Warren Zevon. What know what’s not great? The movie ‘Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead’ starring Andy Garcia. Unless, yer in the mood fer a bargain bin ‘Pulp Fiction’. [Watched on…

A slow-burn crime noir with the grip of a forgotten pulp novel. The pacing is deliberate, turning grim nostalgia into art. The lead’s dry humor hides a deeper melancholy, while the city itself breathes like a character. A quiet, satisfying ride that rewards patience.
This was an interesting film, feeing like a sister sequel to True Romance or another Tarantino or Tony Scott crime movie from the 80s-90s. Really good script, all star cast, and execution to beat most modern crime thrillers. Dark and gritty, it’s a great watch!
