    Weirdly this reminded me more of TRIPLE FRONTIER than anything else. Was grateful that this wasn't really a SIERRA MADRE riff and instead was more a story of the coolest head prevailing. Hawke is terrific.

    Taught thriller that’s like Sorcerer on foot, as convicts are tasked with transporting government gold across the wilderness by an unscrupulous warden. Hawke, Julia Jones, Austin Amelio, Avi Nash, and Crowe are all terrific. Fun film.

    ethan hawke goes full girl dad and russell crowe is a country fried baseball loving warden, couldn’t ask for a better pairing. darabont’s the shawshank redemption by way of friedkin’s sorcerer. a real good time at the movies.

It’s carried through by an all-in Hawke who is really put through the wringer, arguably his most physically gruelling role to date (the upside of a low budget is that his hardships are made to look that much harder), a muscular and entirely persuasive performance that continues his winning streak.

Electrifying a taut tale of tough times and the desperate men they breed, [Hawke] makes sure that, even when it could stand to be a tad weightier, this genre film packs a wallop.
