Atom User Reviews for The War with Grandpa
Felt good to laugh!
Great movie to enjoy with the family.
Great family movie. Beside the Christmas and Birthday stuff, everything else was great for family and kids.
We loved it
We were eager to get out and get back to the movie theater even if it maybe to see a mediocre movie And that is exactly what this was. The premise seemed like it had potential for some good laughs but often the ‘comedy’ was forced and not funny. At times I just wanted to bytch slap the little kid for being such a whiny brat and let’s face it, Robert De Niro hasn’t made a decent movie since ‘Meet The Fockers’.. Is this movie entertaining? Yeah, kinda... But if we weren’t living in a Covid world right now and movies were being pumped out at a normal pace, I would skip this movie in a heartbeat and just watch it at home when I came out. Anyone giving it more than 2-3 stars clearly is just happy to see a movie again and not truly giving you an honest review.
it was ok, had funny parts
It was just okay.
I bought this movie by mistake and didn’t get my refund lol
Loved this show! An all star cast for a cute, feel good movie for the whole family!!
A nice easy movie DeNiro great in the part.
a little dull, but fun
For all these people giving this more than 2 stars, they are CLEARLY desperate for entertainment. Poorly acted jumbled mess that tries desperately to take itself seriously. Pathetically contrived. Even attempts to redeem itself with a “bigger” message at the end. This is where old has-beens like DeNiro come to die.
It was okay
Great and hilarious
Good & cute!!
Metacritic
In theory, it should be possible to have a comedy about a competition between an elderly man and a child to injure and humiliate each other, but it would need to be substantially sharper than The War with Grandpa to make the case.
There’s a pleasing kernel of genuine warmth glowing at the heart of this movie, but it’s been heavily insulated—almost buried—by juvenile silliness. One could argue that this merely echoes the family dynamic, but your tolerance for buffoonery will still need to be quite high.

The War With Grandpa is a sluggish hodgepodge of slapstick humor that barely holds together its illogically motivated plot.
