Synopsis
Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter's family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won't go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences. Based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith, The War with Grandpa is a hilarious family comedy featuring an all-star supporting cast: Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin, Laura Marano and Jane Seymour.

shoutout to the 85 year old man who was the only other person in the theater, who heartedly laughed through the entire thing, gave a standing ovation at the end, and clapped when de niro and walken’s names came up in the end credits. that’s the life i want to live at 85.

The guy that directed this also directed Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties and Hop, so this was pretty on par. They set up a sequel at the end. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like people actually have to watch the first one to warrant a sequel.

Liam Northrup is "meh" onThe War with GrandpaNot a bad movie at all. Watched it with my family and it had a lot of funny moments and scenes. What really turned me off of it is although it’s only about a 90 minute movie, it FEELS like it just drags on forever and ever and you start to get sick of it pretty quickly.

Iso is "meh" onThe War with Grandpa5/10 Typical overdone “family” film, it could have been a lot funnier and better in general. It felt super long and had me wishing it was over the first hour in, and although it wasn’t very memorable, it wasn’t TERRIBLE. That being said, I wouldn’t watch it again.

Light hearted family fun! The cast is amazing, and it was enjoyable to see Robert De Niro playing such a lighthearted character. I personally had a few good laughs and would recommend this to children and adults alike.

In theory, it should be possible to have a comedy about a competition between an elderly man and a child to injure and humiliate each other, but it would need to be substantially sharper than The War with Grandpa to make the case.

There’s a pleasing kernel of genuine warmth glowing at the heart of this movie, but it’s been heavily insulated—almost buried—by juvenile silliness. One could argue that this merely echoes the family dynamic, but your tolerance for buffoonery will still need to be quite high.
