One of the absolutely craziest of all South Korean films. And if you know Korean cinema, you know that's saying something. Also features what's probably one of the best child performances I've ever seen.
Eli HayesSep 15, 2016The Wailing left me speechless in the very best kind of way. I gave up early in the movie trying to figure out exactly what was happening. I decided to enjoy the ride, and try to interpret the key plot elements on rewatches. If you think you can 100% understand this movie…

SupremeLemon (지존레몬)Nov 27, 2016Na's films tend to be busy, pretty, aggressive, and way too damn long, and this is no exception. There are about four different kinds of horror movie in here (setting aside the goofy mordant comedy that finds its way into every Korean film), and that endless jumble of…

Hate to be a contrarian but this film just didn't blow me away like everyone. It was interesting to watch and I was always keen on knowing more about what happens but by the time it ended I was just left feeling nothing. The film is long, sure, the problem arises when it…
DarrenAug 7, 2016Roosters and ravens as pawns in this supernatural game of chess. Na Hong-Jin's response to Robert Egger's VVitch is a bloodier and edgier story drenched in unalduterated paranoia. The only wailing you'll hear are from the audience subjected to two hours of emotional…

That little girl delivered one hell of a performance, goddamn! I'm slacking on Korean horror films because I've seen quite a few now, and they kind of dominate the genre nowadays. Starts out slow, but when it kicks in, the film grips you and gets more intense as it goes on.

I wish there was a rating between “meh” and “like.” The film overall is a good one. It shows great writing, direction, and acting but dang was it slow. I like a slow movie but this was too slow. Going to watch Exhuma next… I hope I enjoy that one more.
Damn near every character was horrendously maladaptive, the plot made a decent amount of sense but left way too much up to the interpreter, and it was weirdly racist? Like wtf did I just plunge 2 and a half hours into
Great twists that left me questioning certain things. Ending was wrapped up nicely but a bit dramatic for my taste. A story of doubting your faith and the audience has to question what is happening along with the main character. Could have been bit shorter but still a great film.

This was phenomenal. The first half was genuinely scary and unnerving, but I got more wrapped up in the mystery for the second half. It felt long here and there but never slow. I always appreciate violence to an animal happening offscreen, but seeing the actual monster was meh.
Apotheosis of supernatural horror and detective crime thrillers. That game of chess ending was extremely provocative after having managed to keep you on edge for 2.5 hours. Incredible atmosphere in the rural setting with one of the best child performances i’ve ever seen.
