There are a dozen reasons why this miniseries is awful, including the flat acting, ultra-cheapie production, comically baggy pacing, badly dated visual effects, and tacked-on attempt at a happy ending. (If Stephen King hated Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of his film so much…
So Stephen King didn’t like Kubrick’s adaptation but he wrote this thing? Ok.
Well, I've been snowed in my house for two days now, so at some point I had to rewatch The Shining. Both of them. I decided to go with the Mick Garris/Stephen King miniseries first. For anyone who doesn't know, Stephen King has always been vocal about his disdain for the…
you know it's bad when its only improvement on the Kubrick version is the lack of the n-word
I know what I’m about to write is considered blasphemy to a lot of my fellow mutuals and Letterboxd friends but I prefer Mick Garis’ version of The Shining to Kubrick’s. I just didn’t like Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall as the Torrences and Kubrick is just not one of my…
Stephen’s King’dom Marathon: Film #45 ”Gentlemen… I think the party’s over” It’s the hotel... Sometimes it makes people do bad things… … like this movie. ”He said, The Overlook couldn’t hurt us, but he was wrong” Cinematic Playlist – Stephen King Ranked
So Stephen King was mad that Kubrick ruined his vision and in response he made this? How embarrasing...
90% of this feels like deleted scenes.
The Shining: 1997 All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work And no play makes Jackk a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All woork and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack…
Not better than Kubrick, but different enough to warrant its own consideration fairly. Of course, it’s more true to the source material (duh), but this one packs an emotional punch that the movie doesn’t have. The hotel is its own character, way more than the movie.
steven weber was INCREDIBLE. im disappointed the rest of the movie did not match up to his talent because he truly embodied jack torrance. he needs to be cast as another horror villain asap. it was more sad than scary however, but interesting nonetheless
i really liked it, more like the book than kubricks version. if this had kubricks danny and wendy it would be perfect. overall it was pretty good. loved how similar it was at times. jack was so cool in this version
4/10 This is like terrible. One of the worst things ever made. But if you watch it with someone who’s gonna make fun of it with you, it can be fun
Better matches the book. The jack nicholson version is better, of course but I still enjoy this version.
I wont lie i’m a sucker for the movie but this one feels more personal, def recommend it
Not as bad as people say but probably would have benefited from more time and money.
Closer to the books than the movie. Each episode is about 90 minutes long
Book is better but still brillant scenes and amazing actors!
