When trying to figure out what exactly ‘The Red Turtle’ was about, I kinda realized it was about everything. It addressed life, death, love, hate, adolescence, curiosity, the human race’s reliance on nature and nature’s reliance on the human race. It tells these topics with…
KarstenFirst 78 minutes of The Red Turtle: this is a very nice movie Last 2 minutes: I am emotionally wrecked and have a new perspective on life
Jordan RaupNov 22, 2016i thought this would be a cute film about turtles but it looks like i played myself :(

A quiet, deep meditation on loneliness and humans’ spiritual connection with the primitive world. Co-produced by Studio Ghibli, The Red Turtle is imbued with European arthouse sensibilities, thanks to Michael Dudok de Wit’s uncompromising imagination that lives up to the…

Eli HayesI wept through most of this film when I first saw it in 2016 in the theater. I had recently found the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I'd been a horrible partner to everyone I'd been with before her. This film is a parable about love searching for…

Not enough turtle imo… skip
Jan Hendrik Bezuidenhout lovedThe Red TurtleWhat studio ghibli film is not good? This minimalist take is a silent meditation on our need for others, time and nature’s relentlessness
RayRay likedThe Red TurtleNot sure what I just watched. A guy impregnated a turtle (after killing it), neglected his (half turtle) son. He gets saved by his son and doesn’t even say thank you and then his son commits suicide (probably because the years of neglect) There were touching moments, but weird
- Amoris is "meh" onThe Red Turtle
I still don’t get how after he killed her, she apparently fell for him and they had a kid…
Arabella is "meh" onThe Red TurtleIt was a beautiful animation, i liked the aspect of the no dialogue. But to me it feels like it just lacks something, I didn’t particularly enjoy the story, i liked aspects of it or what it could’ve been…i can see why others would enjoy it, but its not for me.
Noah March likedThe Red Turtle🫎🫎🫎1/2 13th film for my Studio Ghibli class. Even though there was no dialogue you could indicate the French influence from the animation. Idk what the red turtle symbolized, but the CGI was meh. Anyway, I’m impressed with the story this told with no dialogue
- Meg lovedThe Red Turtle
Beautiful movie in so many ways. Wouldn’t recommend for kids younger than 8 as there is no words spoken in the entire movie and my 6 year olds attention span was non existent. 😂 I had no idea it is a studio ghibli movie! Loved it 10/10
Payge Eminovski lovedThe Red TurtleSo sad. A movie with no words except one scream. The animation style is so beautiful. The way they swim in water without seeing any water ???? So genius and fluid
Shahana Jafarova lovedThe Red TurtleIt is a beautiful, meditative film that blends simplicity with deep emotion. It shows how love, nature, and life are connected in the most gentle way 🫠.

The Red Turtle -- without saying a word -- offers much more than the standard animated film. It offers food for thought, cause for contemplation, and an appreciation for the beauty of being.

Once you’re on its wavelength, the film is a mesmerizing experience.

The Red Turtle doesn’t answer the questions it raises, but it doesn’t need to; it’s about moonlight on the water, a hand held out to another, and the way a wave, rippling onto a shore, leaves no trace of its brief life.
