Synopsis
A New York couple, Rachel (Emilia Clarke) and Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor), live in a not-so-distant future where technology provides ever-more convenient living. A rising tech company executive, Rachel lands a coveted spot at the Womb Center, which offers couples a convenient (and shareable) maternity by way of detachable artificial wombs, or pods. But Alvy, a botanist with an affection for nature, prefers a natural pregnancy. And yet, as Rachel’s AI therapist puts it, why is that “natural?” So begins the tech-paved path to parenthood.

"it would be bad to gestate a baby in a plastic egg that u control with an app" ok ty for telling me that
David SimsSep 4, 2023I wish the themes in this movie were explored further and with more consequence. I still rather enjoyed it nonetheless.
elvisthealienJan 20, 2023He was a botanist, she worked at futuristic Amazon. Can I make it any more obvious?

like a black mirror episode if it were feature length and oddly optimistic
jourdain searlesAug 31, 2023Plenty of interesting ideas, sci-fi world building and solid performances from Chiwitel Ejiofor and Emilia Clarke make this a watchable diversion. However, the idea presented could have a used a bit longer gestation period before being let out of the pod. The overarching…

RealkinoshitJan 19, 2023this was just the first movie I ever watched at Sundance 🥲
ReeceAug 30, 2023"The Pod Generation" is a film that explores a dystopian future where humanity has the possibility of having a child in a pod. Although the film presents some intriguing concepts, they fail a lot to deliver a truly immersive and cohesive narrative. One of the strengths of…

Not bad but definitely not good! The whole movie felt like build up to a climax that never came. Nothing really happens and honestly now that I’m finished I’m just kinda left with the feeling that this was a waste of time. Does include some social commentary which had the potential to be…
fascinating insight on how corporations have sold motherhood & children back to us, going against nature & deep connection with our children. first 40 or so minutes really had me thinking about the politics & sociological impacts of that, but the story really fell off after that

this really made me think; mostly about the daunting horrors of AI, but also about how capitalism will eventually horde every single fathomable thing behind a paywall if left unregulated. i will say i agree with the consensus that this fell a bit short on making the commentary it set out to make,…
honestly thought the creators could’ve done a lot better of a movie with this idea, it lowkey just got weirder and weirder as the movie went on, i could only watch it while i was doing other things as it was that disengaging and overall was just not that interesting unfortunately
This movie did an amazing job at portraying the conflict with AI running our world and throughout goes over very important topics when it comes to reproduction. It's very eye-opening and feels like ot could happen in the next couple of years. I would recommend watching.

Just…weird vibes. Seems quite a dystopian setup (although likelihood is humanity will be at that stage at some point) but more could definitely have been done with the concept, it kind of falls a bit flat. Also the outdated psychology and Freud reminders pissed me off.
This was actually very cute, and I liked the idea of “The Womb” as well as the screenplay with all the details and ideas behind the comedy. The ending was lovely as well. Made me appreciate pregnancy and the bonding of the new family overall 💕
