One of the most meticulously staged, carefully composed films of the ‘70s—much is made of Gordon Willis’ mastery of shadow and vanishing light, a tool to shade motivation and highlight a moral murkiness, but it is Alan Pakula’s patience that lifts this into rarefied…

Carol GrantJan 5, 2019You watch a movie like this and let the credits slip by as you sit in silent darkness. The hum of the movie still hangs in the air long after its finished and it feels like the only appropriate thing to do is take a long walk through the barely populated night of a one a.m.…

Oh look at me I'm Mr 1970s man I just waltz onto planes and pay during the flight and then I ask for the names and hotel rooms of strangers and the desk just gives them out and I can easily pretend to be dead because nobody knows what anyone does if they're not directly…
bombsfallMar 26, 2026Really gets under your skin for a movie that starts with Beatty getting into a ridiculous bar fight. Turns him into an actual shell of a person in a final sequence where i couldn’t even tell what i was looking at half the time. Probably my favorite of Pakula’s paranoia…
KarstenFeb 13, 2023Very cool idea to make a political assassination thriller from the POV of what it might feel like to be inside the Lee Harvey Oswald/Manchurian Candidate MK ultra-patsy recruitment labyrinth. Where things start off in the realm of a good, tense noir procedural (the…

Christopher McQuarrieDec 19, 2020Corporation turns angry loners into political assassins by showing them a slide show designed to associate the word "Mother" with bad stuff.
Will MenakerNov 29, 2016I love how the first half plays like a breezy who-dunnit mystery with goofy action scenes and then the second half tightens the grip until the viewer chokes to death.

- James New likedThe Parallax View
Love the way this film looks, it’s so claustrophobic and neat it’s a visual marvel. Excellent performance from Warren Beatty. Same director as ‘Klute’ which I watched recently. Still prefer Klute but this was great
jam jammy jambam lovedThe Parallax ViewVisual masterpiece and a pitch perfect thriller. Incredibly acted and so so intriguing. That experiment montage is so audacious and i loved every second of it.
Hernandus VII likedThe Parallax ViewLoved the ending. A slow-burn political thriller that builds like a dream turning into a nightmare. The concept is wild, the imagery unforgettable.
- Nothuman likedThe Parallax View
The plot is a little bit wacky but there’s some good tense scenes with Pukula’s direction and some fun performances
