(No explicit spoilers, but spoiler-sensitive readers should watch the movie first and come back after.) A monstrous crisis in South Korean national identity. On the surface, The Host looks a lot like any other monster movie. It showcases an evil beast hell-bent on the…

Early on when the Steve Buscemi monster is attacking people in the park there’s a quick shot of a dog just going to town on its owner. Seems unrelated to the monster, the dog was just looking for an opening to kill its master. Right on.

[Rewatch]: Perfect double bill COVID quarantine flashback viewing with Contagion. I didn’t remember Walking Dead’s Herschel was in this.
Justin Latzen likedThe HostI like it, but idk just wasn’t the best to me
Tessa lovedThe HostBest monster movie ever.

7.4/10 if the cgi wasn’t so unbearably awful i think this would’ve been a rlly great movie - super original take on the classic monster movie with really cool character development and a super interesting plot - cgi makes the monster look like a joke and not at all scary howeverr
Alexander Rivera likedThe HostPerhaps I should have watched it closer to release. I can definitely see why this film has such a big following especially for the time. I suppose it doesn’t age as well as far as CGI and lighting. Overall a very well written film that takes a new approach to monster movies.
Bonnie likedThe HostThere is so much underlying meaning and that’s what puts this film at the top. The monster is a direct metaphor of America and its dangerous influence on the Korean people. The only thing that didn’t work for me was the comedic aspect, but that’s understandable. 7.5

Whilst the CGI is slightly dated, this is insanely good. A family drama in disguise as a monster film. The tone is comedic yet tragic, exhilarating and heartfelt all at the same time. Exceptional performances particularly from Song Kang-ho. Bong Joon Ho is a master
CvptvinHowdy likedThe HostNot my favorite from Bong Joon-Ho, but it's got some heartwarming moments as well as heartbreak moments. The creature itself looked horrible, and the runtime was a bit long, but other than that, you got everything you need in a monster movie.
Jackdiddlywack likedThe HostBong Joon Ho makes another great movie and Kang-ho Song is amazing here. Had a great time with the story and writing. Although the cgi was atrocious I still felt like the monster was so unique that it didn’t bother me too much.
