That opening scene was a total bait and switch. It promises a wild, gory ride, but the rest of the movie plays it safe with some pretty questionable choices. It has flashes of greatness, but the writer constantly backs away right when it gets interesting. 6/10 for me.

DJWSA likedThe GatesReally good film imo. Although, I went in with very low expectations. When the guys reached a gate to a gated community you would think it’ll be smart to turn around especially after one of the residents questioned it. They found out the hard way.

The Gates' is constantly on the verge of getting better, sometimes on the verge of getting good, but it never quite gets there. It’s a missed opportunity for thrills, social commentary, humor and/or horror.
