just an absolutely heartbreaking film from beginning to end. belongs in a very small group of movies that i don’t think i could bring myself to watch again. i really don’t know what else there is to say? anthony hopkins deserves the world.

This movie ripped the heart from my chest and stomped on it. Ingenious use of film structure to put the viewer into the mind of an elderly man suffering from alzheimers. Anthony Hopkins is incredible.

MovieDaddy lovedThe FatherThe role that upset Chadwick Boseman at the Oscars. Hopkins absolutely deserved his 2nd Best Actor win in what is perhaps the greatest portrayal of dementia ever put to film. Non-linear story telling with a heart wrenching ending like no other. Don’t skip this one!

Anthony Hopkins was absolutely brilliant in this film, as was Olivia Colman, two incredible actors. Truly devastating.

Hopkins methodically strips away every quality we’ve come to expect from him—the refinement, the silver tongue, the imposing intensity he lent Lecter and Nixon and Titus—until there’s nothing left but frailty and distress. In doing so, he helps convey the full tragedy and horror of dementia: the way it can make someone almost unrecognizable to themselves and their loved ones.
