“The Dig” is a movie to put on while you sip tea on a comfy couch; letting it slowly lull you into a peaceful nap. There’s little surprising about director Simon Stone’s film. Nothing will astonish you, nothing will shock. The entire outing; about the amateur…

˗ˏˋ suspirliam ˊˎ˗Jan 29, 2021I don’t dig it. Literally have NOTHING to say about this except that it feels like a 3 hours film and is one of the most uninteresting “well-made” , oscar-bait-y, Terrence Malick wannabes, films I’ve ever seen

- zxki is "meh" onThe Dig
It's a pretty decent film, though I don't think it knows what it wants to be. As a drama, it's excellent. Great casting and performances, especially from Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes. Heartfelt characters, emotional scoring, and tragic themes, although the depth never digs quite deep enough. As…
Ana B is "meh" onThe Digmid afternoon film. The plot is quite simple, and the ending more or less expected. You may have a good night’s sleep with it. Also how tf does the main character get buried just for putting the shovel in the ground???
- Furkan lovedThe Dig
It’s a meditation on history, legacy, and the human connection to the past. If you appreciate films that focus on character driven narratives and historical events told with nuance, this is a rewarding watch.
DJ Jacklin likedThe DigVery interesting. For those who don’t understand the archeologists need to dig, this will open up the reason for digging.
Sarah Warlow likedThe DigNicely acted. I’ll admit I didn’t know much about this archeological find and its story.

This is a passable substitute for the real thing. It could have burrowed so much deeper.

Gradually, and with the methodical patience of someone unearthing buried treasure with a tiny brush, The Dig reveals itself to be a story of love and estrangement, of things lost and longed for, of life and death — of what lasts and what doesn’t.

The shape of its story is ultimately conventional, and the way in which it’s told can sometimes feel familiar – like a Sunday evening drama smuggling in big ideas. But the line it draws between the earthy and the ethereal stays with you: it’s a well-timed double dose of consolation and escape.
