George Romero’s relatively restrained adaptation of Stephen King’s melodramatic & somewhat masturbatory love letter to his own Richard Bachman persona (all compliments!) is at its best when it leans into its giallo-esque story beats and allows Timothy Hutton to slick back…
Matt!Apr 12, 2022George Romero's screen adaption of one of Stephen King's bestselling novels is a rather interesting mess. The idea of a writer's split personality forms the basis of the story - here the alter ego exists as a partially absorbed twin who manifests into reality when the…
Slig001Jul 28, 2023George Romero settles into a studio horror groove and delivers a solid, relatively straightforward adaptation of Stephen King’s gothic meta-horror novel where he envisions himself as Dr. Jekyll and his alter ego pen name Richard Bachman as Mr. Hyde, and has them duke it for…

Another fantastic George A. Romero movie. I haven't read the novel but Michelle tells me this is one of the more faithful Stephen King adaptations. The Dark Half could be seen as a psychological slasher of sorts. The concept isn't new, but it is very well executed here.…
Lou (rhymes with wow!)Oct 21, 2024the title sounds more intriguing than what the actual film has to offer - Romero's doppelganger horror has not a glimpse of psychoanalytical underpinning but instead roams around in guesstimate narration. the Stephen King adaptation has the charm of a TV thriller that is…
shookoneDec 20, 2020Stephen’s King’dom Marathon: Film #31 ”We all have something of the beast inside us” The sparrows are flying again as Timothy Hutton gets in touch with his darker half and discovers the consequences of not using a #2 pencil. Sadly, Romero’s film fell victim to the…

The American way of death. George Romero failed big bid for mainstream success taken from one of Stephen King largest best sellers. A rather clumsy film, but an unsettling mix of violence, domesticity, material success and the way they intersect in art. It is narrative…
Filipe FurtadoOct 10, 2025Serious writer or serial killer? George is in two minds. In 1982, George A. Romero directed Creepshow, which was written by Stephen King. Nine years later in 1991, Romero took on another King story, The Dark Half. For many years, serious writer, Thad Beaumont, has been…
WestyMovieCryptFeb 2, 2024Stephen King's play with the doppelganger motive is especially captivating during the more mysterious first half. At some point the story slows down a bit and doesn't make that much out of the scenario, but even then it's still pleasing because of Timothy Hutton's…

The great concept, great acting and beautiful cinematography couldn’t save this one, unfortunately. I still love it but it’s not the best Stephen King adaptation.
Decent a little weird though but worth the watch also don’t think I’ll be able to go near a sparrow for awhile
