Synopsis

A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!

Moviegoers are saying
This Frankenstein reimagining starring Jesse Buckley has audiences deeply divided - while some praise it as a visually stunning masterpiece that captures generational female rage with Oscar-worthy performances, others find it painfully slow and confusing. The film seems to work best for viewers who appreciate abstract storytelling and social commentary, though its pacing proves polarizing.

All sincerely intended. All a bit rickety. Still, The Bride! does just about get by on suave style and committed performances.

It’s an intellectual joyride without the joy.

There’s a lot going on here: you never quite know what Maggie Gyllenhaal is going to throw into the pot next, but it’s always visually exciting and often funny.
