"listen, honestly... what do you want from me?" so potent and unsettling. paints an increasingly anxious picture with so little detail provided
LucyMay 8, 2020"don't worry, you're not his type." fuuuuuck
BethanyFeb 15, 2021subtly, quietly devastating. the monstrous burden of knowing that doing the right thing is futile will never be lifted — even if you eventually choose to put it down, its ghost lingers. maybe you can do the right thing later, when you’re a little higher up in your career,…

this movie and the show succession are part of the MMCUCSCU (Matthew Macfadyen Covers Up Company Scandals Cinematic Universe)
cinéfila... 🕯️Feb 13, 2020Blown away the boldness of Kitty Green's conceit, which stages a day-in-the-life of a new, young assistant to an unseen Weinstein-like movie executive as a horror movie of soul-sickening ambience. There's a minimalist quality to the action, so much of the emphasis is on…
Scott TobiasFeb 26, 2020When she reassures a stressed woman on the other end of the phone “It’s not your fault, it’s ok, I fix it” I wanted to scream. This is really terrific, it’s smart and really uses its silences to make a searing statement. I’ve heard some echoes of people who didn’t *get it*…

This is so distressing. I loved and hated every minute of it.
Sara ClementsJul 29, 2020A claustrophobic horror film about bureaucracy and all the ways in which monstrous behavior is covered for and normalized. Expertly directed, especially as it relates to how sexism and misogyny can saturate the very atmosphere of a place. Julia Garner is a real treasure.
Jamelle BouieApr 28, 2020Unmistakably inspired by the Harvey Weinstein scandal, The Assistant is the narrative feature debut from documentary filmmaker Kitty Green. It begins with recent graduate Jane (Julia Garner) arriving early to an office which could easily be Miramax in its early days and…

I understand they were trying to call out predatory behaviour, harassment and abuse at a workplace, but the film was unbearable to watch. There was literally nothing going on for an hour and a half. I kept waiting for something but nothing happened. Just not at all to my liking
Such a simple concept for a movie, but it was executed perfectly. Nothing dramatic happens, yet so much is implied for the audience that it tells a horrifying truth. Truly the opitome of the phrase “open secret”!

Not as boring as the reviews said, but also not as hype as some other people said. It was just average. Good sound design though! 6/10.
One long extended metaphor for why exploration of women continues to happen in the film industry. Could have been an email.
