Spoilers

  • When Matilda is picked to be launched at the pigs' castle before Bomb, he makes the remark, "Always a bridesmaid". This is a subtle reference to Matilda's voice actor Maya Rudolph, who starred in Bridesmaids (2011).
  • In the game, Mighty Eagle comes in when you throw a can of sardines, but in the movie, he comes in when he sees all of the eggs being stolen. The eggs are all tied together, making it look like one big egg.
  • The license plate on the truck, used by the pigs, which is subsequently stolen by Terence, says "Hog Wild".
  • WILHELM SCREAM: When a pig, carrying a plank of wood, knocks another pig off the roof that they're on, as Leonard makes his announcement upon noticing the birds trying to get over to the castle that they'll be getting their egg feast over and done with.
  • The song "Paranoid", by Black Sabbath, is used to describe Red's troubled life during the opening credits. However, the chorus line "Can you help me? Occupy my brain!" is never used. During the movie, Red indeed goes for help.
  • Stella is the only bird who doesn't use her special powers during the attack on Pig Island.
  • During the attack on the Piggies' castle, Red checks on doors looking for eggs, but he finds two piggies dressed as dolls, calling him with an eerie voice. This is a nod to the infamous spectral sisters' scene in The Shining (1980).
  • When Red, Chuck, and Bomb start spying on the piggies, they use costumes, as if they were undercover. Red and Chuck are dressed as the main characters of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Bomb is dressed differently.
  • Inside Mighty Eagle's cave, a poster from the OBEY trademark can be seen in a bird style: OHEY. It has Mighty Eagle's face.
  • When introducing balloons to the birds, Leonard says "Helium. It's a gas!" This is a saying that comedian Doug Benson uses frequently when referring to the Helium Comedy Clubs.
  • While searching the pigs' ship, Red and Chuck pass a makeshift desk with a "ham" radio, a mounted "Captain's log", and a "Fifty Shades of Green" book. Chuck inspects the title of the book, then shakes his head in disgust.
  • When the chandelier is falling down in Leonard's castle, Dr. Pork, M.D. (2014) can be seen briefly on the television in the room. When the pot falls through the castle, The Catch (2014) can be seen briefly on the television in the room.
  • Throughout the movie, Leonard and Red never call each other by their own names. Leonard only called Red "Eyebrows", much like the classmate birds did in Red's flashbacks.
  • The scene where the pigs start to steal the eggs, and the birds invade their homes to get them back (tying into the games), doesn't take place until the last thirty minutes of the film.
  • There are a few hints to the pigs' egg stealing intentions throughout the film, following Red's suspicions: -As the pigs say "cheese" to the camera, one of them says "cheese omelet". -Leonard daydreams about an egg looking delicious. -A pig's face gets covered in yolk.
  • As the birds start to knock down the pigs' houses, while trying to get to the castle, one of the pigs is shown to be eating a sausage, which ironically comes from pigs.
  • All of the bird characters seen have official names, but not all had been used in the film itself, only being used in the credits. For example, the parents at the start of the film, to whom Red delivers the cake, are named Edward and Eva. The bird with a sneezing problem, that helps the Judge look taller, is named Cyrus, and the Judge is named Peckinpah.
  • As Matilda takes out the pigs that approach her and the other birds, while they're on Piggy Island with her explosive eggs, what she says pays homage to the song "This Little Piggy".
  • Of all of the guesses, of Mighty Eagle's battle cry, that Chuck and Bomb make, as they head over to Mighty Eagle's mountain, getting on Red's nerves, the correct cry was "HAY YUH HUUUUUUUUH", made by Bomb, as shown by Red, when calling Mighty Eagle to save the eggs upon spotting him from the pig's castle.
  • Some scenes were originally a bit longer than they were in the final film. -Red originally started singing "Happy Hatchday" when arriving to deliver Timothy's hatchday cake at the start of the film, and reads a note saying that he's scared of clowns, and is allergic to wheat, which he didn't know at first, as Timothy started to get terrified. -While at the tables, listening to Leonard's speech, as he and the other pigs arrive, Red apologizes to Chuck for what he did to Billy the Sign.
  • While in the pigs' castle, you can see many pig pun posters of famous plays and movies, including Ham-ilton (Hamilton) and Ham-let (Hamlet).
  • At the end, when Chuck tells Red, "Thank goodness you did not turn to the pork side.", this is a reference to Angry Birds Star Wars (2012).
  • There are two references to the bird models in the game. The first is in the court, when the woodpecker draws the scene, and the other one is during the montage when they are going to rescue the eggs. Red also tells the birds to curl into a little ball, as a reference to the game. Only Chuck and Matilda look like their game selves, and Stella doesn't look like her game model.
  • Josh Gad and Bill Hader (voices of Chuck and Leonard respectively) will appear in A Very Spooky Night (2017) as the voices of Mansion Guard #1 and Sausage Party's Firewater.
  • After the lead trio Red, Chuck, and Bomb are in Mighty Eagles' cave, there is a poster reading "Keep Calm and Mighty On" in the background.
  • The pig's truck, that the birds steal, has the famous Coexist sticker on the back. The letter "o" has been replaced with a pig's snout.
  • The angry birds drink pee in this movie.
