Was under the impression that this would be kind of like Taken but it’s really just about a dude learning to appreciate French culture
Patrick WillemsJul 29, 2021I wish this was an Eastwood movie but Damon absolutely showing up for work here did it all the favors.
matt lynchAug 7, 2021this is actually like three different movies and one of them is really good and the other two made me tired

STILLWATER takes its time to tell its constantly evolving story & the results pay off in unexpected & dramatically reflective ways. The screenplay tries to cram in many ideas & genres but even at nearly 2.5 hours long, it was always engaging. One of Matt Damon’s best…
BeHaindSep 8, 2021Weird one! Kinda bloated and flat as a genre movie about a falsely convicted murder case but surprisingly tender and sweet as simple a fish-out-of-water character/class drama. So many insanely endearing scenes of Matt Damon in plaid, jeans, Oakley's and trucker hats smoking…

Kind of weird that the runtime for this on here says 139 minutes even though it feels like it’s actually 8 hours long
•lily•Aug 23, 2021Tom McCarthy's Stillwater was low-key terrific. This is honestly one of my favorite movies of the year yet. It wasn't at all what I expected. An utterly absorbing character study & compelling drama. Directed smartly and economically. More than redemption the movie was about…
NakulAug 18, 2021I enjoyed this but on the way out I overheard someone else from my screening saying “that was like a Netflix movie you just put on when there’s nothing else to watch” and I can’t really argue.

Great acting, slow moving
CAcheryl averyI enjoyed the movie! Found this movie interesting and sweet as it portrayed a father’s quest in trying to help his daughter.
DCD CA little hard to hear/understand what they were saying sometimes. But, we loved seeing a “different” kind of movie with some suspense and twists. Matt Damon does a great job portraying an “ordinary guy”.

For most of its length, Stillwater goes along as a meticulous examination of its central characters. And then suddenly near the end it jumps the tracks.

McCarthy pushes the thriller narrative in directions more extreme and harrowing than plausible, bringing Bill and Allison’s story to an unexpected point of reckoning.

From one vantage point, Stillwater may just be a sentimental and lurid riff on the infamous Amanda Knox case. But I think McCarthy has something bigger in mind, which he pokes at intriguingly throughout his movie’s considerable sprawl.
