river phoenix is so sincere & gentle that i feel like he’s speaking directly to me when he tells gordie that he will protect his talent, support him, and fill the space of his dad. it’s like there’s a wall he’s always able to break through to provide a sense of comfort. he…

It’s been a while, but from what I can remember, one kid had his d*ck sucked by a ravenous leech (consent?), one thought it would be funny to stand in front of a speeding train, and two other kids had to witness all of this. Basically all of them need therapy.

Another childhood favorite of mine that’s highly quotable and I always lowkey wanted to be there even though it would have been so traumatizing but it’s just a classic and can never be done the same again.

The entire cast is superb and it so perfectly paced, that the story unfolds with wit, pathos and sensitivity and completely free of emotional shortcuts.

Stand By Me is the summer's great gift, a compassionate, perfectly performed look at the real heart of youth. It stands, sweet and strong, ribald, outrageous and funny, like its heroes themselves--a bit gamy around the edges, perhaps, but pure and fine clear through. It's one of those treasures absolutely not to be missed.
