There has been much inquiry over the past thirty five years or so as to what this film is about - the three faces of the human soul, perhaps? Spirituality? Mortality? "How would I know the right word for what I want? How would I know that actually I don't want what I…

No offense but it’s not really surprising that this movie gave a bunch of people cancer.
Branson ReeseNov 3, 2013I’m a bit over the moon here, as it’s not often when one of your favourite films is displaced. In this case, Tarkovsky’s own Solaris. I absolutely adored Solaris for its humanistic take on the hard Sci-Fi nugget of illusion and projection. While I haven’t seen the…
Jonathan WhiteJun 25, 2021First time watch on the big screen for me so it felt like watching the film for the first time. Interesting how the motorized handcar sequence with that steady beat really stood out as the highlight for me. The hypnotic use of the mechanical clanking of the train…

maryJul 16, 2014"You dream of one thing, but you get quite another." Stalker is incredibly complex and fairly impenetrable on first watch, so as a result this will be a combination of surface level analysis and dubious conjecture. Needless to say, this is exactly my brand of science…
ScreeningNotesMay 22, 2017Thematically rich and visually stunning, Stalker is the best film that's ever bored me. I saw it in a theater, forcing me to experience it all at once, but I still felt fairly unaffected by it. There's a haunting quality to it, certainly, but the pacing was far too slow to…

A fantastic movie to watch by yourself in a dark room. This will make you think about your life in a new way. It’s slow but in the best way possible.
This is not at all what I expected this to be, however I left pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed what this had to say. Out the gate this is incredibly Soviet, you feel it in the expressionism, and you feel it in the structure; this is for lack of better words a dense and sturdy cinderblock…
There’s an uncomfortable atmosphere in this film’s dystopian setting. Packed with really deep, thought-provoking dialogue. Explores existentialist questions about the meaning of life and flaws of humanity. Bizarre, lonely, anything but standard. Leaves more questions than answers

Normally I wouldn’t rate something so high that I didn’t understand fully while watching but reflecting on some of the scenes, cinematography, and character development throughout its clear this is one of the more artistic films I’ve ever seen. Not usually my style but loved it.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this movie was 2 hours longer than it should have been. First hour was insanely boring, as was most of it. Interesting ideas though, I was intrigued (even though nothing happened) and it was absolutely beautiful to look at. SO SO long though.

There’s never been a masterpiece I understood more yet it feels like I should’ve missed the majority of what it wanted to tell. Many scenes can be very slow to some but the pacing is very well done. I connected so deeply with this movie the cinematography and poetry. 10/10
I can't be negative simply because I didn't understand a film. Maybe I should've done some research before blindly jumping into this. Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting through almost 3 hours waiting for something to interest me. Oh well, it is what it is.
