Smokin' Aces is a film that manages to cram every bit of exposition into the span of about 5 minutes and then goes absolutely incomprehensibly bananas for the remaining 103 minutes.

V lovedSmokin' AcesI’ve seen this 3 times since it came out 20 years ago. It’s been a long time since the last time I saw it bc I forgot how many people were in this. Ryan Reynolds was probably the least famous person of everyone in it, when it came out. It’s action packed, & the characters are 🙌🏼

I don't know, I enjoyed bits of it, but at the same time it was just such an "all over the place" movie that even though you could keep up with each characters story, it was just annoying in a sense. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not my type of movie, ending was cool
DarkEco likedSmokin' AcesAn absolutely STACKED cast of assassins and FBI agents converging on a single target and intertwining with each other. The final minutes info dump twist after all the fun, frenetic action and Reynolds’ reaction is probably my favorite dramatic scene of his career.

In 2002, Carnahan made an intense and violent little cop film, Narc, with Jason Patric and Ray Liotta. He seemed to have absorbed the influences of John Cassavetes and Martin Scorsese and come up with a style of his own. I was a fan of that movie, but Smokin’ Aces feels like Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill pushed much further along into lethal absurdity.
