Having gotten its point across about the consequences of witnessing and becoming acclimated to violence and sensationalism, about 45 minutes in this decides to use that as a springboard for a bonkers chase movie complete with psychic powers, ghosts that shoot laser beams,…
matt lynchMar 22, 202178 Wes Craven's enthusiasm holds no bounds. This is such a audacious premise that consistently switches gears, always uncovering a new idea or concept on the way. Very funny and creative. Television not just as a portal but a separate dimension - how the wavelength of…
SilentDawnMar 31, 2019Shocker might be a little ridiculous, campy, and a mess... but I dunno... this movie might’ve been an attempt at starting a new franchise but is fun as hell and has quite a bit of heart (that goes a long way for me) to it… plus I think Horace Pinker is awesome. No…

demented goofball Wes Craven crafts a two-hour amusement park ride from hell that never stops long enough for you to take a breath, in which an all-american football player has to confront his past by fighting a serial killer made out of tv using only a remote control, the…
sydneyMay 4, 2026Few movies in cinema history are so all over the place than Wes Craven’s Shocker. You could say that in an examination of his demons, Wes Craven left no stone unturned in this one. You could also say, he was just having fun. Shocker is a schlocker. (Okay, that lame joke…
Yves BouwenFeb 5, 2022Craven returns to many of his pet themes—the family unit under duress, the illusion of safety by suburban surfaces, a child's escape from repression/abuse/cycle of violent mistakes made by parents, the consumption of violence in media/dreams vs. reality, etc—in this insane…

John Tesh and Timothy Leary together at last! This is like Heat for the weirdest guy to ever live. Although maybe that's not true. Tesh and Leary never actually share a scene. So actually this is more like The Godfather part 2 for that guy. Another letterboxd home run from…
Branson ReeseNov 19, 2025i loveeed Shocker. i think the villain turning into tv static material was really satisfying to see!! 📺⚡️ just based on vibes alone you can totally tell this movie is a 1980s Wes Craven horror! he knew exactly how to incorporate the vibes of an era.
ཐི༏ཋྀ ༻𝕙𝕒𝕝𝕖𝕪༺ ཐི༏ཋྀJun 5, 2022Not sure where even to start with the insanity that's on display in this Wes Craven joint. Quite frankly it's all a bit of a mess with a ridiculous plot and could possibly have the most ludicrous climax to a movie I have ever seen. What better way to get away from the…

this is so astronomically bad i want to cry. characters are boring, visual effects will make your eyes bleed, & the plot makes no sense whatsoever. some of the concepts were cool but executed so poorly. just wish i could get that hour & a half of my life back lmaooo
Wes Craven with the hit or miss during the 80s. But at least they're original ideas
