Let's get this out there first: 1. the goddamn opening credits 2. the goddamn editing 3. the knowledge of Rock Hudson's own personal life takes his performance to Morrissey-levels of melancholy 4. this should be required viewing for any filmmaker wanting to experiment…
sydneyJul 26, 2020"The years I've spent trying to get all the things I was told were important - that I was supposed to want! Things! Not people... or meaning. Just things. And California was the same. They made the decisions for me all over again and they were the same things, really. It's…
demi adejuyigbeAug 2, 2013not really happy with how this turned out, but too tired to nudge it in the right direction... also, you should probably watch the movie before reading this. not like *immediately* before, but maybe at some point in your life. It’s appropriate, and perhaps nearly…

Cool tidbit from the commentary. They couldn’t close Grand Central while filming there, and were having issues with people gathering and looking into the camera. So director John Frankenheimer set up a false camera on the other side of the station, gave the film’s writer a…
Mike GinnMay 23, 2020One of the coolest and scariest opening credit sequences of all time. Plus there's an extended nude grape stomping wine orgy scene.

I think we underrate John Frankenheimer
Patrick WillemsJun 19, 2020this either gets a lot funnier or a lot scarier when you realize it's basically just a pyramid scheme.
Ethan ☀️Jan 4, 2025One of the most underrated films of its time. John Frankenheimer crafted here, a psychological labyrinth, where the quest for self-reinvention proves to be a deadly trap. Everything is filled with a dark and suffocating atmosphere, like an existential allegory rising…

Definitely not for me. The whole time I was watching this, I almost dozed off and distract myself with playing phone. Sorry, can’t help enough. It was too slow and unengaging. Nice premise and camerawork though.
It's a great psychological thriller, but I couldn't get myself invested that much, mainly because I didn't care for "Rock Hudson's" character at all. There are also a few pretty disturbing scenes, especially for the time this was released.
