Synopsis
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

I started this movie expecting it to be a knock off, satirical superhero film, but I was soon humbled by the major plot twist. The story concept was original and pretty well through out. Not much to say on the acting however. It doesn’t seem like much, but it was a decent movie.

Marcus likedSamaritanI cannot recommend this movie. Half way through I started to think it might work better as a comic 5/6 part miniseries or graphic novel, but that became less likely too. Action quality jumps around, but Stallone mostly delivered. Last 5 minutes saves it from a negative review.

Hate on this movie all you want but I thought this was really good. It was a different approach to a superhero movie and I loved every second of it. Stallone knocked it out of the park with this role and the final twist was something I did not expect at all. Awesome. 9.4/10

Nick Dubberly is "meh" onSamaritanExactly what you would expect from a straight to streaming superhero movie. It feels a lot like Prime Video’s version of Black Adam. Overall it was fine, definitely not something I’ll be rushing to see again, but fine for what it was.

The Boys, Samaritan is not. But even a failed attempt at making a superhero movie out of whole cloth rather than pre-existing IP is welcome, particularly one that challenges the genre’s mores.

Samaritan isn’t terrible but neither is it especially good. It’s a B-grade comic book movie that looks, sounds, and plays like a B-grade comic book movie.
