Synopsis
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

I’m gonna need an explanation for the scene of Stallone eating cereal with apple juice instead of milk like that’s a completely normal thing to do
Bryan EspitiaAug 28, 2022This was almost unwatchable. I wanted to turn it off so many times. The writing is atrocious as well as the editing. Example, “hey show me how to fight” “ok after I get off work” literally the next shot is exactly that, with no exposition. There are so many problems and…
𝒜𝓂𝒶𝓃𝒹𝒶 𝒦.🏳️🌈May 2, 2025This movie rips off a Billie Eilish song. Stallone powers through, fighting against the movie itself to keep the entertainment value high, because everything else here makes me decay just like the atmosphere of the city in the film. A city that has lost all hope and with…

Good action would’ve saved this, or just something not entirely generic, but there’s nothing to be found here beyond a good concept ruined by almost every component being weak. Not sure why they keep alluding to a much cooler sounding legend instead of just telling that…

Austin BurkeAug 26, 2022What if we made a superhero movie, but dark? Groundbreaking. The script feels like it was computer generated with Stallone uttering inane dialogue and guttural screams in attempt to distract you from the bland action. Why is this PG-13? Have Stallone rip some arms off and…

BeHaindAug 26, 2022If I didn't know that Sylvester Stallone had been in a couple of James Gunn comic book movies, I would have assumed he had never heard of comic book movies, and wasn't sure what they were. *Scenario* Stallone is handed the script to Samaritan...and is blown away. "What…

I started this movie expecting it to be a knock off, satirical superhero film, but I was soon humbled by the major plot twist. The story concept was original and pretty well through out. Not much to say on the acting however. It doesn’t seem like much, but it was a decent movie.
I cannot recommend this movie. Half way through I started to think it might work better as a comic 5/6 part miniseries or graphic novel, but that became less likely too. Action quality jumps around, but Stallone mostly delivered. Last 5 minutes saves it from a negative review.

Hate on this movie all you want but I thought this was really good. It was a different approach to a superhero movie and I loved every second of it. Stallone knocked it out of the park with this role and the final twist was something I did not expect at all. Awesome. 9.4/10
I can’t say it’s great. But I can’t say it’s bad. It’s okay. Acting kinda crappy. Action kinda crappy. They use the superhero thing to keep him Rambo but slower since he’s invulnerable. I feel the ending was predictable. Figured it out early. Good for a one time watch.

A great non conventional hero movie & if you pay attention you’ll see some powerful messages…like how hate can lead you to loose the things you care about most without realizing. Sylvester Stallone delivers a very credible super human & his dialogue were on point!
The gritty, grounded world felt lived-in, & the twist while somewhat foreseeable gave the story weight. It balanced action and emotional beats well, & the smaller-scale stakes made it more personal than typical superhero blockbusters.
