not to sound dramatic or anything but that beach scene changed my life
˗ˏˋ suspirliam ˊˎ˗Dec 20, 2018As I wrote on twitter: The precision in Cuarón’s craft is quite honestly overwhelming. I think I had a minor anxiety attack while watching it. And seeing the movie theater shot in a movie theater was otherworldly. One of my faves of the year. I'll be seeing again on the…
Sean BakerJan 13, 2019Alfonso Cuarón didn't release this beautiful film in in theaters just so Bohemian Rhapsody could be played in the theater next to it and rudely play Queen over EVERY EMOTIONAL SCENE

TIRED: cutting together the leftover scraps of Orson Welles’ unfinished final film. WIRED: bringing Federico Fellini back from the dead.
davidehrlichDec 16, 201833 So many choices are the wrong choices in Roma: If this is about Cleo, why is the spectator almost entirely left in the dark as to her existence beyond the physical? There is no emphasis of her connection to the family except in her own internal turmoil and misery…

I WAS NOT EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR THIS MOVIEEEEEEEE (Also, Everyone telling you this needs to be seen in a theater is leaving out the fact that if you see it at home then you don’t have to deal with strangers watching you sob uncontrollably.)
Matt SingerOct 16, 2018CIFF 2018: film #3 “it sounds like this. and smells the same” completely breathtaking from the first frame to the last. the little in between moments of every day life make this what it is. a film almost full of those moments, and i could watch hours more of them. rain as…
LucyFeb 24, 2019Avoided this one for as long as I could because I saw The Discourse very early on and didn't feel much like jumping into those waters. Anyway, as I predicted, I ended up somewhere in the middle on this. I think a lot of outright hatred is pretty ungenerous and the glowing…

Boring, don’t understand how it took the in for cinematography when the camera was on a slow spinning tripod for every scene. Didn’t need to see someone’s wiener while he did martial arts. The only good scene is the parking scene.
It's a beautifully crafted film, that feels very personal for the filmmaker. Some of the scenes were great, but the pacing is super slow, and a lot of time is devoted to scenes where nothing happens. It's not for everyone, and sadly despite how much I wanted to like it, it wasn't

If you’re looking for something that explains everything fast, this movie is not for you. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews about it being slow, BUT THIS IS THE POINT!it shows the life of an indigenous woman in a very human way with an incredible photography —>
Una obra íntima y profundamente humana. Cuarón invita a empatizar con una historia cotidiana y silenciosa con realismo y belleza. El avión cruzando me parece gran simbolismo, como una idea de transición, cambios. Una joya simbólica y cercana

I was a bit surprised, but this movie was really good. I don’t know like necessary how close to accurate this movie was but I felt like I was right in the middle of it. I love that. It was filmed in black-and-white. The filming was amazing. The acting was amazing. Plot was 10/10!

I can't believe the director is so damn talented! It makes me want to make a movie of my grandparents lives and how they came to the United States.
RBrichard BieleThe editing required more snipping. The story: more substance. Frankly, don't see why the hype.

AMAlexander MarshallThere isn’t a story told in all all of cinema that comes across as so beautifully effortless.

SAstephen ashfordWent to go see the movie without knowing anything about it. Just that it was a “good film”. This is Citizen Kane level film making.
