A random conversation: "Oh my god! Look, I painted the Mona Lisa!" "No you didn't, you idiot. You copied it." "Oh. What's the difference?" "In order for you to have created something, you need to have had an idea, a concept, heck, a thought first." "Ah, I…
DirkHDec 24, 2014Unfortunately this disproves my theory that any classic film would be better if it included a scene of Vince Vaughn jerking off.
Austin ShermerFeb 28, 2026Convincing a major studio to spend tens of millions of dollars on this is a spectacular prank so hey Gus Van Sant congrats I guess? Genuinely one of the weirdest things ever made

Say what you will about the staff, the water pressure in the Bates Motel shower looks really solid. There’s nothing worse than a hotel shower that feels like you’re standing under a drippy garden hose. Okay, maybe there are some things that are worse... To me, Gus…
Matt SingerOct 19, 2016if anyone can actually give me a reason this movie is bad u can have a gold star (saying it didn't need to be made doesn't count and also i'm gonna disallow "it had bad performances" because a) the performances aren't bad, they're just based in exploitative genre-movie…
Josiah MorganJan 13, 2025Do I like this movie? No. Do I think it is an improvement in any way on the original? Definitely not. Would I rather watch it than the original if given a choice between the two? No way. Does Gus Van Sant’s design for the Psycho house suck? Big time. Is it weird that…

Let me just say, the fact that Vince Vaughn was chosen to play the role that was previously filled by Anthony Perkins should be the biggest question about this film. I mean, what would possess Gus Van Sant to think that it was a brilliant idea to cast a virtual unknown at…
Wesley R. BallWhat was the point of making a full-color copy? This is among the greatest insults to cinema history, and since it's basically the same story with the same characters, the same length, the same shots, the same dialogues, the same opening sequence and the same ending, I'll…
Edgar Cochran ✝️🍋Oct 17, 2022One of the most important art projects in American cinema. An experimental critique of studio-led capitalistic filmmaking and purely just filmmaking itself. Gus Van Sant's Psycho is an extraordinarily special film, and while Hitchcock's original is obviously brilliant, I…

Vince Vaughn can never replace Anthony Perkins, but his performance is alright. This remake offers nothing new and instead is a shot-for-shot remake of the classic, which I don’t understand. The point of remakes is to do something new, which this one never does. 3/10

Incredibly boring. Exact same as the original except for one small audio change that makes Norman a lot worse of a character. The audio mixing in the end scene is weirdly mixed and the background music drowns out the monologue. Why would I ever watch this again over the original?

As far as entertainment, I could give this a “meh,” but on principle I’m giving it a dislike as it’s one of the least original films I’ve ever seen, acting as an inferior carbon copy of the original, with weird casting and with the only changes they make being bad ones
Did this movie need to be made? No. I’m only giving this a “meh” because I liked the dialogue in the original, and they used the exact same dialogue for the remake. I don’t know why Joseph Stefano chose that, but hey, it is what it is.
