Moviegoers are saying
This Milla Jovovich action thriller divides audiences as a gloriously unhinged B-movie experience that's either hilariously entertaining or painfully derivative. While reviewers consistently praise Jovovich's magnetic performance and the film's campy action sequences (including a memorable skateboard scene), they're equally unanimous about its terrible dialogue, plot holes, and a jaw-dropping twist ending that 'defies logic and possibly the Geneva Convention of Good Taste.'

It’s both more and less than “Taken: Mom Edition,” another boneheaded poking of conservative’s self-inflicted wounds around human trafficking with a title just as deluded as its content.

While it has a mix of fresh and familiar concepts, Protector ultimately still feels too routine to stand out from the crowd.

Either the twist needed to come earlier, or the filmmakers needed to do a better job of making sure it provided enough of a jolt to make the previous, largely generic 85 minutes worth the effort. As it stands, Protector's twist ending feels adrift in a movie that's not compelling enough to support it.
