Synopsis
Fresh off the worldwide blockbuster success of summer 2024's funniest comedy, Despicable Me 4, Illumination expands its joyful animated universe with a riotous new chapter, featuring all-new characters, in the biggest global animated franchise in history: Minions & Monsters. This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.

Moviegoers are saying
"Minions & Monsters" emerges as an unexpectedly ambitious love letter to cinema history, packed with references spanning from 1878's "The Horse in Motion" to modern classics like "The Matrix." While audiences are divided on its PG rating due to adult content, many praise its surprising heartfelt moments and the fact that it got kids laughing at Citizen Kane parodies.

this movie got my 6-year-old son to shoot orange juice out of his nose because he was laughing so hard at a Citizen Kane parody. The Minions are no longer my mortal enemies they are now my close personal friends.

Director Pierre Coffin, making his first solo outing on the franchise while once again providing the voices of every single Minion, leans heavily into the characters’ roots in slapstick. The result is packed with affectionate nods to pre-Code Hollywood, while also finding room for playful references to Singin’ in the Rain, Jaws, The Blob and The Matrix.

Manic and breezily entertaining, it’s a fun ride, but even at 90 minutes, it feels overlong.

Minions Monsters is filled with lighthearted, disordered caricatures and lampoons of dozens of films from the Golden Age and earlier, all dispersed without much rhyme or reason other than adhering to the movie’s theme.
