i just think that maxine minx cutting a fat line of coke with her sag card is the absolute pinnacle of cinema
aaronJul 3, 2024It’s not every day you see a film shoot itself in the foot to this degree, where every decision past a certain point is a total head scratcher. The 80s aesthetic and women being targeted by a (real life) serial killer coming off the golden age of porn were right there on a…
Sydney🚀Jul 3, 2024Love how West reanimates the scuzzy streets of 80s LA. Love the multiple instances of goopy practical effects. Love Mia Goth (even if Maxine Minx is the least compelling character she’s played in the trilogy). But all of these are cosmetics masking a movie with a severe…

Dewey Finn likedMaXXXineMaxine solving overpopulation one ball stomp at a time.
Clay Werner is "meh" onMaXXXine5.9 - a movie full of good moments that fall fairly flat overall. Ti West again captures the aesthetics of the chosen era well. The callbacks, Easter eggs, montages & neon lit settings, over the constant chatter of satanic panic & serial killers all set the scene perfectly for a gory Hollywood…
Shiv Reddy likedMaXXXineNice way to wrap up the trilogy but this was definitely the least slasher-y of the bunch. Ranking order would be X, Maxxxine, & Pearl. Kudos to the entire team for churning these movies out in a 5 year span!

the first two were simply so much better
Carter B is "meh" onMaXXXineAw man, I’m honestly disappointed. As a lover of the first 2 films in this trilogy I’m genuinely disappointed in how this series ended. The movie felt overstuffed, rushed and unfocused. I wish the main focus of the film was Maxine’s rise to star-level fame while internally dealing with the…
MCLevecq likedMaXXXineMy brain says Ti West didn’t stick the landing, but my heart wants to believe it was the masterpiece to cap off the best modern horror trilogy. Still a lot of style, jaw dropping moments, and connective fiber to X and Pearl, but not an instant love. Maybe rewatches will move me.

A great film about a woman coming to terms with her trauma & a homage to giallo films. Until the third act, which is too over-the-top & campy. Ti West does best recent period pieces because he shows you morals/decadence of time rather than just the look. Mia Goth is phenomenal.
K4U4N likedMaXXXineI thought I was seated for the movie of the year, it wasn’t quite that. Nonetheless, an overall fun time, but with a very non-gag worthy reveal and 3rd act, with lots of lackluster wrap-ups on its many plot lines. Very fierce though, everyone should go see for it themselves !!
Jared Cloud is "meh" onMaXXXineI really liked X and Pearl but I got to say that I was quite underwhelmed and a little disappointed with MaXXXine. I think it’s an okay conclusion to a pretty good trilogy but I guess I was just expecting a lot more. Honestly, it was the whole 3rd act reveal that let me down

EAEsperanza AlonsoBest movie of the franchise!!
LDLyn DowlingThis sequel was good but could've been better. The last two movies from this director was more grounded in what it wanted to be while this new one felt a bit convoluted. Plus the last two movies were much darker in tone compared to this one.

Very boring movie
JCJeff ColombelliNowhere near as good/fun as X and Pearl but still pretty good Mia Goth was as great as usual. What sucked donkey balls is having to suffer a very expensive close caption showing at Universal City Walk's AMC, because it wasn't clearly indicated on the Atom Ticket website.…

While there’s nothing on the level of Pearl‘s climactic monologue or credit-roll close-up, Goth still turns this revenge-of-the-final-girl parable into superior flashback pulp.

While there’s some payoff in the many visual callbacks to ’80s-and-earlier genre movies, at some point the filmmaker lost sight of how to best serve Goth a third time.

West mixes some wit in with the gore here, even if the payoff, alas, doesn’t rise to the level of the buildup. By then, though, “MaXXXine” has delivered enough nostalgia regarding its genre to merit a walk down its alleys, and not incidentally, the showcase and sendoff that Goth’s character deserves.
