Hopkins & Mikkelson both play Lecter with a poise and polish but Brian Cox seems like he actually eats people.
Mike Ginnof course mann was the first to realize that the ideological structure of both the cop narrative and the serial killer narrative were identical and cyclically reinforced each other, decades before the whole 'true crime' genre was established. the institution of the police…

Was an 88, now a 100 Is there a more dangerous Hollywood film than Manhunter? Not necessarily on an ethical/moral level of what it’s showing, but *why* - it conveys, on an allegorical register, exactly why we all stumble into a dark auditorium with a crowd of strangers…
SilentDawnSep 3, 2020An extremely 80s but genuinely great mystery thriller about three total psychopaths (Hannibal, Tooth Fairy, William Petersen)
demi adejuyigbeJan 12, 2015Calling media "dated" as strictly a pejorative needs to stop. It implies that only contemporary works matter because they're about The Way We Live Now, ignoring the archival value of a cultural statement. Sure, there's a spectrum through which one can have this…

comrade_yuiSep 7, 2023The blue in this movie is the bluest blue that has ever blued in a movie before. Just an A+ blue. And that scene with blind Joan Allen petting a sedated tiger ... can a scene still be considered a non-sequitur when it quietly holds the key to the entire film? There a lot of…

Brian cox as lector is everything. I always wish every Hannibal movie I watch had like 5 times as many scenes with him as they actually do though. Give him some more screen time come onnnn he’s so diva. Everyone else was pretty mid tho and that lady was so bad at pretending to be blind 😭😭😭 maybe…
7/10 A pretty solid movie but inferior to its sequel. Will was a strong lead and his mental struggles were very intriguing. Brian Cox was great as Lector although I wish there was more of him. The film struggles with its pacing and has a weak villain but has a very strong ending

I had put this off for years after seeing the trilogy and the show (which are both practically perfect), but I never should’ve, it was great. The style and character performances keep it distinct from Red Dragon and coupled with an awesome soundtrack it’s definitely worth seeing
Not as exciting or thrilling as Red Dragon. The downgrade of Lecktor’s and the Tooth Fairy’s acting is criminal. Great cinematics for an 80’d movie, maybe even better than Red Dragon’s. Didn’t really like the music in the movie. I wonder why Lecktor wasn’t in the movie more.

One of the greatest films of all time, Michael Mann does it yet again. This movie is dripping with style, atmosphere, heart, and unease. I’m my opinion, it is superior to the silence of the lambs and has one of the best scenes ever, soundtrack as well.
This isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. I think I just find the way Michael Mann makes movies to be extremely boring. Also, I felt like I was being bludgeoned with 80s architecture. A prison with that many windows??? Be for real.
