Synopsis
In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who develops the power to see the future… and realizes she can use that insight to change it. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women bound for powerful destinies...if they can all survive a deadly present.

1.2 - arguably a worse Pepsi ad than Kendall Jenner’s. There’s almost nothing redeeming. Bad CGI, worse audio dubbing & mixing. Bland writing, indifferent acting, nauseating editing. It opened as maybe “fun bad” but spun into actually bad quickly. Worst Sony/Marvel collab yet.

This movie is an abysmal trainwreck that does almost everything wrong, but that made it amazing. I was in awe of its awfulness the entire way through. Please make this movie the next Morbius. Best movie ever.
Jim dislikedMadame WebUltimately the villain and the hero did not seem powerful. The villain had a really bad script and acting. And then they didn’t do the hero justice. It’s tough to make it look cool when the hero’s power is just to see the future, but they coulda done so much better with that.

Sadly, Madame Web fails to rise above its pedigree as a lesser superhero movie. It does nothing to convince viewers that there’s value to be found in a story not featuring a marquee comic book character.

None of this would work without Johnson, whose gift for side-eye and deadpan line readings grounds what could be a very silly story into one with real human stakes (that do not, thankfully, involve the fate of the entire world).
