Every time you think, woah is this movie good? You realize it’s because the movie is just showing you scenes from Rocky, an actual good movie.  Sort of the boomer biopic final boss. This or that upcoming Jimmy Stewart movie. (Ippolito good at least)

"Sylvester Stallone... like Peter Parker." "Write a freaking script and give yourself the best part!" A pointless endeavor because the genuinely rousing underdog production history behind Rocky already seeped into and was mirrored by that original movie. He put so much of…

I PLAY ROCKY just completely blew the roof off of Toronto! Kind of a cheat code for Peter Farrelly to copy iconic moments and feelings from “Rocky” to create his own audience-friendly movie, but it undeniably works. So many mid-applauses (I lost count after a certain point)…

I’m not gonna lie, this absolutely worked on me. Just when I thought I was becoming hardened to films where you know where they’re going, what they’re going to say, and how they’re going to get there, I was delighted to realize I’m still capable of being swept away in…

Una joya. Evade ser un biopic genérico por lo increíblemente graciosa que es y la gran dirección de Peter Farrelly. Y Anthony Ippolito…una estrella. La reacción en TIFF fue eléctrica

I Play Rocky charts how Sylvester Stallone rose from an obscure actor with a lock-jaw drawl into writing and starring in one of the most iconic movies of all time – and is about as cheesy as a biopic can get. Relative newcomer Anthony Ippolito stars as the brawny movie…

Peter Farrelly’s film shows little interest in uncovering anything beneath the familiar surface of the Hollywood icon at its center.

When a movie works, it works, and much like the movie whose making it’s depicting, I Play Rocky is a genuine crowd-pleaser, even if its best portion is the stuff before the cameras roll on Rocky itself. The film has a ton of wit and charm, anchored by excellent central performances from Anthony Ippolito and AnnaSophia Robb.

It is difficult to comment on I Play Rocky in any meaningful way without starting with Anthony Ippolito's career-defining turn. From the very first moments of the movie until the credits roll, Ippolito transforms into Sylvester Stallone in every sense of the word. On a number of occasions, he is indistinguishable from Stallone himself, such is the actor’s ability to so seamlessly immerse the audience in his portrayal as Sly.
