Synopsis
I Can Only Imagine tells the touching true story behind the best-selling Christian song of all time. Before he was writing hit singles as the front man for the award-winning Christian band MercyMe, Bart Millard (J. Michael Finley) was a young man with a turbulent relationship with his abusive father (Dennis Quaid). Years of pain and secrets drove them apart, until his father’s cancer diagnosis inspires change in both their lives. Can they finally reconcile and forge the kind of bond that had always eluded them? “I Can Only Imagine” brought hope to millions of listeners, but it was inspired by a very personal tale of forgiveness and faith.

It was really hard not seeing Isle of Dogs opening night but like my family planned for this to be the day we saw this in advanced, so, yknow here we are. I'll start this review by just giving you the simple fact that I am religious. I know a lot of people on the…
Brett SchuttMar 21, 2018Christian movies are ready to cross over. 14 years have passed since “The Passion of the Christ” became a national sensation, and while no one has managed to match the hysteria that greeted Mel Gibson’s New Testament snuff film, companies like Pure Flix and Mission Pictures…
davidehrlichMar 22, 2018Whatever your thoughts are on this movie, you have to admit Christian filmmaking is making some progress in terms of quality films, and it’s being led by the Erwin brothers. The beginning was a little rough (and probably one of the only reasons it isn’t 5-stars). The…

There are a lot of Christians movie that are so badly acted and cheesy. And I would say the first 20 or so minutes fall into that category. Kind of cheesy, with some cringe-worthy dialogue, and the child acting was a bit off. However, this is one of that movies that…
Bernard ChrisnaldyApr 14, 2018the song isn’t even that good
bridget 🍊Jul 22, 2018It’s better than most Christian films, but it’s still not that good.

A deeply moving father/son story that isn't preachy, but also doesn't shy away from showing the impact that faith can have in a person's life. Not "good for a Christian movie" good. It's a good movie.
David RosarioSep 28, 2024Watched this with my church for a movie night they held, which was a lot of fun. As for the film, it definitely has some positives and in many ways is higher quality than a lot of other modern Christian films, but it still felt pretty bland. I’ve seen a fair amount of…
Adam ✝️Dec 22, 2020This is one of the cases where the story is greater than its dramatization on film and the message is of greater relevance than the final materialistic outcomes. Being a top-billing music success does not determine your personal growth. This is being labelled as a…

I’ve always knew this of this song, but after watching Barts story, and how he had to rebuild his relationship with his father, it truly gives it such a deeper meaning. I believe this movie is perfect for someone who needs to learn to forgive, and it came to me at a perfect time
It's ok. The songs made me cry so so much even though I didn't understand the lyrics. I've never seen a CHRISTIAN movie make ME very so much in ONE DAY!! It's not bad. Bart was a confusing character but not bad at all. I felt somewhat inspired throughout the whole thing!👏👏👏👏
The movie takes a little long to get to the point of the song and minimizes the ravages of the abuse the boy had to endure so as to most effectively show the trajectory of the theme of forgiveness. But the wait is worth it as the movie's theme is fully realized by the end.

This is an amazing triumph of mind bro g stronger than you know. i highly recommend this to anyone (like myself) living with MS. Or at least into watching these medical documentaries.
I feel bad to rank someone’s life but the movie NOT THE PLOT the actors didn’t do as good as other actors and the cinematography didn’t hold up

Great movie. A nice break from the vulgar and provocative movies that have become the norm for Hollywood. It was wonderful to be able to see a movie with my family without worrying about sexual content or profanity or the usual objectifying of women.
Eyes just could not stop leaking. Loved every bit of this true story.

For all the faith-based platitudes baked into the script, it has to be conceded that directing brothers Andrew and Jon Erwin steer the ship steadily and draw out sincere and persuasive performances from Finley, who really can sing gloriously well, and Quaid, who even with a now ravaged visage is still just as dangerous, compelling and sexy as ever.
If the film is affecting, it's due to Quaid's dark, committed performance as an incredibly troubled man.
It’s a drab, emotionally flat film.
