Synopsis

Go back to where it all started. Stephen King was once famously quoted as saying, “I have seen the future of horror… his name is Clive Barker.” That future was realized in 1987 with the release of Barker’s directorial debut Hellraiser. Based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart, Barker’s Hellraiser sees Larry (Andrew Robinson) and his wife Julia (Clare Higgins) move into their new home, unaware that something evil lurks beneath the floorboards of the dilapidated house – something that wants human blood… Introducing the world to the iconic Pinhead and his sadistic band of Cenobites, Hellraiser became an instant genre classic upon release and remains one of the most frighteningly original visions in horror.

This release will feature the newly remastered 4K version of the film, as well as an archival interview Under the Skin: Doug Bradley on Hellraiser where the iconic actor discusses his first appearance as ‘Pinhead.’

    shocked this movie doesn’t seem to have a lot more cultural permeance past Pinhead being considered a genre icon. literally did not know anything else about this movie going into it– took a while to feel like i was locked into its groove, but when i was i thought it was…

    Practical effects once again flexing their muscles as the best way to articulate body horror and instill true discomfort. Clive Barker is one twisted dude.

    There’s camp and there’s bad. This was… not camp. Honestly painful to sit through, I don’t see the hype other than for the cenobites designs and certain cinematography choices. Are the sequels supposed to be any better?

    I am hesitant between meh and dislike, but I guess I won't treat this movie so harshly, I feel it's the kind of movie that grows on you over time but it is nowhere near good. If the cenobites had more screen time I feel like it would have been a little bit more interesting.

    I was afraid this was not going to hit the same as it always does, but all the practical effects made me appreciate this even more. I have many fond memories, especially when I was younger and being told this was the forbidden and scariest thing ever lol. Every line Doug Bradley gave as "Pinhead"…

    “Jesus wept” Come to daddy 💀🩻 I would want frank too her husband is such a wimp Rip. I really liked the practical effects and gore, I liked the end where he was being pulled apart and enjoying it, but I didn’t get the homeless man turning into a dragon, I enjoyed it 7.5-8/10

    it's sharing the deep, repressed desires of the director and the writer - frankly, only watch if you are either very open minded or have a therapist on standby. its not the visual horror that will disturb you.
