Two films now in 2023 have dared to examine the fallout and societal implications of WWII’s nuclear exclamation point: 1. A hard-hitting social drama chronicling years in the life of a man broken and haunted by his own failure to prevent the darkness and devastation that…
You ever just stop and think about how absurdly hard the Godzilla theme goes
I tapped the green stars one by one like dorsal ridges charging up.
Is it normal to come out of one of these movies having enjoyed the human characters more than Godzilla?
I’ve never been a Godzilla guy but this might have made me a Godzilla guy
96 Spectacular. Was initially skeptical with all the praise of the human-drama - a lot of it read like this movie is somehow the first Godzilla entry since the '54 original to have believable characters and a satisfying narrative for the connective threads. And that's…
Just death, destruction, and an emotional core All I could ever ask for in a classic Godzilla
Terrific. It is at once a nostalgic throwback to the classic Godzilla movies, while also feeling like a radical reinvention of the entire franchise. Godzilla as a metaphor has never been more eloquently handled, and the film's messages about war, peace, guilt, trauma, and…
A return to form. A reminder that Godzilla was originally not about the monster, but about people. The monsters we create, the evils of government, the power of community— it’s all there and working in unison while still giving us the most catastrophic version of the G-Man…
This movie rules. Finally a Godzilla movie with human characters that are just as compelling as the giant lizard monster. Awesome VFX and music also. This was the first time I was actually afraid of Godzilla. Awesome Atomic Breathe in this version but not as cool as Shin Godzilla
God hates Japan
Harsh of me, but the story(for me personally) was to cliche and predictable. Maybe the other reviewers are seeing something I don’t.
8.4 - It’s nice to see such a grounded & human approach to a monster story. Godzilla’s design was classic. The action was decent if a little underutilized. The acting was solid. The score & sound design was impeccable. But it was predictable & not all the emotion hit for me.
Can three people comment on this review just so i can try get the award thing for three different people commenting on one of my reviews. Many thanks
For a $15 million budget, this is insane. For most of the movie, the vfx/sfx is beautiful, but I can't get over the Godzilla eyes. They break the whole character. The score wasn't nessarily tense, more so military. The drama and acting, especially by Ryunosuke, was very unexpected. It carved itself…
9.1/10 A Godzilla movie where I care about the humans. Retelling the classic story but having it feel so unique was amazing. Acting, writing, VFX were phenomenal. When Godzilla is on screen it’s a treat. Easily the best monster movie I’ve ever seen recommend as much as I can
Best trip to the theater of the year for me. I mean emotion in a Godzilla film?? An absolutely fun experience with beautiful visuals and a great storyline. Was not expecting to be so drawn to each character and the story itself. Highly recommend
This movie had everything you could possibly ask for in a monster movie. Go see it immediately!! 10/10
