Not going to lie, I don't think any movie makes me tear up as much this one. It wrings it out of me with it's big, cornball sentimentality and sweeping, swelling music, but I'll be damned if it isn't appropriate and I won't hear any slander of this movie from the…
Will MenakerJul 20, 2021This is a fascinating work that of course probably couldn't live up to contemporary representational semiotics but for 1989 it's incredibly complicated and thorny without sacrificing simple melodrama. It's also packed with truly elaborate spectacle and tremendous…
matt lynchFeb 15, 2017Even Roger Ebert knew this was racist, apparently. There's arguments that anti-white supremacist arguments should pander to white sensibilities, that white people listen better when we have it sugarcoated for us. Maybe this is true. Maybe I've only ever learned when being…

My favorite thing about movies that depict this era of warfare? Guys giving inspirational speeches to seas of hundreds and hundreds of men which in real life occurred next to battlefields filled with cannon fire and thus would’ve ended up sounding more like the adults from…
Matt!Sep 10, 2020What’s so civil about war anyway?
CinemaVoid 🏴☠️Sep 14, 2013I liked this film more when it was remade with Tom Cruise playing a samurai.

Starring: King Kong Ain’t Got Sh!t On Denzel Edward Zwick, in only his second feature picture, reveals his considerable skills as a director who can capture and convey an impressive sense of scale. This is evident in both simple moments, like the soldiers singing or…
Rafael "Mister Movie" JovineApr 1, 2020Cannot believe Matthew Broderick (who killed two people in Ireland in 1987) ended racism!!! Shocking story!!!
ava adoreSep 8, 2020Watching “Glory” in 2020 is a bit awkward, given that this story would nowadays almost certainly have reduced Robert Gould Shaw to a supporting player and moved the soldiers of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the first Black regiment in the Union Army during the…

Solid movie but didn’t love it. Surprisingly not usually a huge war movie guy and wanted a little more emotion from this one but definitely felt emotion in the last 30 min. and in the Denzel getting whipped scene. I thought Matthew Broderick was just ok as the lead, morgan freeman didn’t do as much…
Definitely a well made movie in most regards, but it also didn’t really do anything for me. It’s got good intentions, great performances, and some standout scenes for sure but it’s held back by not really letting you get to know the characters. It was hard to be invested in them.

An great civil war film. Matthew Broderick is obviously weird in this as he can and can’t act at the same time. The story is a great adaptation of true events and the effects have aged surprisingly well. The script is a little iffy but other than that, it’s great.
This was probably one of the most historically accurate movies I have seen in my entire life. It was incredibly entertaining and fun to watch and kept my eyes glued to the TV the whole time all the way up to the end credits. 10/10 for me

A powerful film dealing with race relations featuring great performances. The final battle scene, the Battle of Fort Wagner, is executed so impressively. Honorable portrayal of soldiers along with a brutal unglamorous portrayal of war.
Good movie. My history teacher made us watch this for a project, and even if it’s not my favorite kind of movie, it was still a good watch. It touched on some important points in history and I liked it a lot. I recommend.
