Not going to lie, I don't think any movie makes me tear up as much this one. It wrings it out of me with it's big, cornball sentimentality and sweeping, swelling music, but I'll be damned if it isn't appropriate and I won't hear any slander of this movie from the…
Will MenakerJul 20, 2021This is a fascinating work that of course probably couldn't live up to contemporary representational semiotics but for 1989 it's incredibly complicated and thorny without sacrificing simple melodrama. It's also packed with truly elaborate spectacle and tremendous…
matt lynchFeb 15, 2017Even Roger Ebert knew this was racist, apparently. There's arguments that anti-white supremacist arguments should pander to white sensibilities, that white people listen better when we have it sugarcoated for us. Maybe this is true. Maybe I've only ever learned when being…

My favorite thing about movies that depict this era of warfare? Guys giving inspirational speeches to seas of hundreds and hundreds of men which in real life occurred next to battlefields filled with cannon fire and thus would’ve ended up sounding more like the adults from…
Matt!Sep 10, 2020What’s so civil about war anyway?
CinemaVoid 🏴☠️Feb 11, 2026A beautiful movie. Saw this for the first time just now in the theater all by myself. The score by James Horner is incredible. The set pieces and battle scenes are amazing. Denzel, Andre Braugher, and Morgan Freeman steal the show. I really need to see more Civil War…

I liked this film more when it was remade with Tom Cruise playing a samurai.
FilmApeFeb 7, 2026Such a grandpa watch. If my grandpa doesn’t have this on VHS collecting dust in a box somewhere I’d be shocked. This film feels like it has its heart in the right place, I believe it truly wants to honor these men. However, taken at face value, this is such a tragedy that…
Joel HaverFeb 9, 2023Starring: King Kong Ain’t Got Sh!t On Denzel Edward Zwick, in only his second feature picture, reveals his considerable skills as a director who can capture and convey an impressive sense of scale. This is evident in both simple moments, like the soldiers singing or…

Definitely a well made movie in most regards, but it also didn’t really do anything for me. It’s got good intentions, great performances, and some standout scenes for sure but it’s held back by not really letting you get to know the characters. It was hard to be invested in them.
Not only is this a great movie, because it is! But it’s so awesome and I think it’s very important they make movies like these to help remember things like what those brave, amazing people did. They don’t teach the truth about the civil war in A LOT of schools to help teach ppl!

This was probably one of the most historically accurate movies I have seen in my entire life. It was incredibly entertaining and fun to watch and kept my eyes glued to the TV the whole time all the way up to the end credits. 10/10 for me
A truly moving film of the American Civil War. All actors are cast extremely well, and the movie gives me goosebumps every time at the finale. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, it needs to go to the top of your list. God Bless America!

Good movie. My history teacher made us watch this for a project, and even if it’s not my favorite kind of movie, it was still a good watch. It touched on some important points in history and I liked it a lot. I recommend.
A very powerful and profound film. One of the best civil war era battles i’ve seen on screen thus far. Matthew Broderick is a comfort actor for me, but Denzel did NOT need to go that hard… That man can act DAYUMMM.

This stirring historical re-creation depicts the experiences of America's first unit of black soldiers in the Civil War and the young Northerner who leads them.
Glory is a strong and valuable film no matter whose eyes it is seen through.
Though the film has an evocative look reminiscent of Matthew Brady’s period photographs, Zwick has stuffed the actors’ mouths with numbing bombast. Glory is a shame.
